I hope he does finish. That doesn't mean much to me. Lance Armstrong finished the TDF as well. Maron Jones finished the Olympics. They are great athletes. THey also were cheats.

However, there is an irony to your statement about Rob Young finishing, and how it doesn't mean much to you.

You know better than I that T & F is crammed full of cheaters- especially at the world-class level. It's no different at the Tour de France or the Arnold Classic.

You can dig at Lance and Marion, but you'd better hit the rest of the Tour and the top of the T & F food chain, too.

The last two segments stitch together nicely to come up with a 12-noon stop time. Remember, he is on Hwy 95 at 8:18am headed north, and then he has a 21-mile segment that takes 3:42 but we don't know when it starts. It does almost fit the distance along Hwy 163 to Laughlin. That's helpful. In order for it to be only 21 miles but also only 3:42, he would had to have been picked up right at the end of his previous segment.

Possibly, he wasn't hitchhiking at all, but was offered a ride by a stranger. He's coming off a 4.6 mile section running 10 minute miles. Don't know if those were slow, then faster, or fast, then slow, but I could see a car pulling over and seeing if he needs a ride.

8:18 is too soon for the RV, which is still stuck in the sand (it gets back on the Hwy at 9:30).

Another fly by response. This one says he he saw two guys walking with an RV in Utah. Not surprising though, as the kml indicates walking pace at that point.

Yes assuming he gets to Laughlin in the 12:00-12:52 possible range, that means the 21.97 mile run started from 8:18-9:10.

The prior 4.61 mile run ends at ~8:19. So he has a MAXIMUM of 51 minutes to travel 13 miles.

Are there two stories? Markus (I think) received a message saying he ran about 36 miles. That's in the graphic. That is the full distance back to Laughlin from the Hwy 95 segment ending at 8:18am.

The blog says that he cut through the desert and ran over a hill. I've been assuming that the 21.9 miles are a direct continuation following the segment ending at 8:18 and the suggestion was he ran straight through the desert (straight-line path along power line roads). Not sure where I got that idea, but I can't seem to find the evidence for that suggestion right now. Was there something else that suggested he made a cross-desert short cut beside the blog?

Going back to the 36-mile thing, everyone is in agreement that's just ludicrous because the timing doesn't work. We have the 3:42, 21.9 mile segment at 10:06 pace preceding the segment leaving Laughlin. Coincidentally, 8:18 followed by a 3:42 ends at 12:00 noon. So there are 15 miles missing.

15 miles of a hitched ride north on Hwy 95? Then it would have been a 15-minute ride and then he gets dropped off and starts laying down more 10-minute miles all the way back to Laughlin... actually, slower miles for awhile, with some faster ones coming into Laughlin.

This supports the straight east-west thumbnail assumption with the 21.9 mile segment AND fits the timeline. One interesting side effect of this is that he would have been running down Hwy 163 for about 70 minutes before the RV caught and passed him. They would certainly have seen them. Wouldn't there have been a reunion of sorts? Wouldn't the van have slowed and escorted the runner?

What are you saying bro? LRC is equal opportunity when it comes to cheaters, whether it be the hobby jogger claiming to run that 5K PR in a local charity event or the big stars. The blog suggests it was Rob's idea to drive on these sandy roads. It looks like the roads do some stair-stepping along the highway and you can see the KML following those dirt roads for awhile (from 5:11 (8:11 Eastern)) until they got stuck at around 6:15. Where they got stuck it looks like the stair-step pattern breaks down and they tried to follow the sandy wash rather than the road. I think that was just a navigation mistake. And I doubt RY wanted to be stuck in the desert for 2 and a half hours in the middle of nowhere. He continued following the dirt road on his way across the desert to Hwy 95, but he stuck to Hwy 95 headed north until at least 8:18am.

BTW, the screenshots of the TomTom are something called TomTom MySports DashBoard. To register you need to have a TomTom device. All of this data is already uploaded to the TomTom website. Conceivably with pace, cadence, and possibly HR data. He's accessing it with his browser. I don't know if TomTom MySports allows you to share your data publicly...

I think this is what happened too. It would match Mr. Young's style. It's been a PR stunt all along, and they couldn't fall behind in week one or the 'ahead of the world record' angle that's leading the website title and pre run coverage was gone. Everyone in the RV is unhappy with those outcomes and has motivation to keep the pace moving.

I suspect there is no real watch data from the infamous desert stretch (he stopped the watch during the 10 mile ride in the RV IMO) and riding-in-the-rv type watch data from the suspect overnighters. We'll never see it.

I think they rightly figured Guinness wouldn't know enough about pacing, HR, and cadence data to diligently check when the tracker data matched the watch GPS data and resembled a running pace. They didn't know what would happen once LRC forum caught a whiff and now they're cornered.

Agreed re: nonchalant mention. So the party line really _is_ that he ran 36 miles but the only truncated segment we have (which fits the whole timeline) is the 21.9 segment which is missing 14 miles...
