I’m a lib, my parents are ivies (legit), and I had an easy & legit entry. Ironically I never went! Ask me if they were mad! But we sorted it out, ha ha. Took about 6 years, less time than they were in school.

Some folks might take umbrage with the rapper's claim that his daughter got accepted on her own, though -- he and Jimmy Iovine founded the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy a few years back ... and there's a hall on campus named after them.

Classic wealth privilege and Young is too dumb to even realize it. When you have already donated so much to a school that they co-name a building after you, you don’t have to cheat your way in, or even ask for a break. You don’t have to say a word. The word gets out from the fund raisers to the admissions office that the child of a “whale” is applying and in they go. The only way to tell if she was legit is if she actually had the high GPA and test scores they demand from the rest of their admitted kids.

Hey, sometimes good things happen, too. And maybe we don't focus on them enough.

But a few hours ago my son shared with me the news that he has been accepted into USC!

This was a "reach" for him.

I cannot tell you how proud I am of him, how hard he worked, and how overjoyed I am knowing what this must mean for him.

Would i feel somehow less ecstatic knowing that I somehow bought his way in to the school? Probably I would.

But we did it legitimately. And more than anything, he did it. I just am so impressed in being able to see him do this.

At what point do we stop teaching our children and we start learning from them? I don't know. Really not sure what any of this means but it sure is a different twist than what makes the news, unfortunately.

I have 2 very good friends from high school, who went to USC and both took out heavy loans to do it. They are very proud alums and stories like this have to take the shine out all of the hard work they put into school.

The funny thing out this whole story. You can go to pretty much any JC or CC in the country for 2 years and get good grades. Those same schools that rejected you out of high school will magically accept you. The parents in this story couldn't or wouldn't let their kids wait and work out the hard way.

I suspect there's at least a few things going on there.

First, it's a natural desire for a parent to want intensely for their kids to be happy and unfortunately, too often that means happy immediately rather than happy after struggling to get there. And second, having your child in a community college, even temporarily, is just too 'blue collar' for these celebs trying to create a fairy tale existence. And last, I think there was the supposition that their money would best be put to use ensuring them a spot in the good schools, and leaving nothing to chance.

Of course I don't condone any of this. Whatever it was they wanted out of all this, they've botched it in an epic scale.

Not Yale, Stanford, nor USC would accept someone who started at a JUCO.

Ivies and other elites will accept JUCOs they would have rejected out of high school. It gets the college around the All Mighty U.S. News & World Report rating scam, as they don't count transfer stats. After all, those applicant's tuition money is just as good as any others and some of the top freshman admits with high GPA / test score / college essay do drop out after a semester or two. Somebody has got to fill the class rooms and dorms.

They reject 95% of the applicants, some with perfect ACT and SAT scores but accept a JUCO transfer to fill the form? You obviously aren’t a perfect ACT guy with that logic. Yes let’s accept someone from Crap Ommunuty College who will get a significant price reduction over Jonny Rich who had a 36 ACT and will pay full fare.

The story is falling out of favor because the guilty parties are rich liberals. If the parties were Trump, Bush, Bobby Knight, and Clint Eastwood, the media would have all of their resources dedicated to uncovering every possible but of evidence.

College admissions scandal: Accused test taker Mark Riddell to plead guilty

A Harvard alumnus accused of taking SAT and ACT tests for college-bound children of wealthy parents embroiled in a massive admissions cheating scandal is expected to plead guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and money laundering, court documents show.

Mark Riddell, a 2004 Harvard graduate, allegedly secretly took college board exams for students between 2012 and this past February. He was paid $10,000 per test, according to prosecutors.

He faces up to 20 years in prison, in addition to supervised release for three years and a $250,000 fine. But the U.S. attorney for the District of Massachusetts said in a court filing that based on Riddell’s “prompt acceptance of personal responsibility” for the offenses alleged, prosecutors would recommend a lesser sentence.

12 defendants in biggest-ever college admissions cheating scandal plead not guilty in Boston court

The 12 defendants were arraigned Monday before Magistrate Judge M. Page Kelley as they made their first appearance in a federal court in Boston, where the nationwide case is being tried by the Justice Department.

One by one, the defendants and their attorneys stood up and were told their rights, beginning with Gordon Ernst, the former head tennis coach at Georgetown University, who is accused of taking more than $2.7 million in bribes to designate at least 12 recruits as tennis players including some who did not even play the sport.

“Not guilty,” each of them said individually when asked for their plea.

If they’re convicted, each faces a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison, $250,000 in fines and 31/2 years of court supervision. While the case is pending, the defendants’ travel is restricted to within the United States, among other conditions. The judge set a status conference hearing for June 3.
