In addition, if you are saying there are offsetting penalties then the Lions still get screwed over. Offsetting penalties would result in a replay of the down, it wouldn't have gone to 4th down. But you simply don't overturn that call.

I have nothing against Dallas per se, just wanted to see a good game. Apparently that is not possible when it's a Dallas home playoff. The whole thing stinks, even if you are a Cowboys fan, as they will be tarnished by this.
-Pettigrew didn't have his hand anywhere near Hitchens' mask
-Hitchens clearly ran right through Pettigrew. If you allow that knowingly, it changes pass defense completely in the NFL, "late game call" or no
-The flag was recalled by the original ref
-Bryant pops onto the scene with no helmet right after the play call. Maybe he wanted to clearly vocalize to the ref: "Jerry's gonna get your striped *** on a platter unless you pick up that flag!"
What a cloud over the whole game, but it has a certain comedic aspect, I guess.
Can't wait to see the NFL explanation for that pass interference call. That was HUGE -- Detroit gets the penalty and they're in FG range.
Yeah, I went back and looked at replay again. Your version is bogus. Hitchins interfers, pushes Pettigrew, and the ball hits the defender in the back. No facemask prior to any of that. It looks like Pettigrew grabs the side of facemask AFTER being interfered with but by then it has no impact on the play as the ball is hitting the defender by then, who never once looks back.

The Sportscenter crew just ripped the pickup apart. Jaws was pissed!! Even the other 2 guys trying to be PC about it couldn't understand it.

Add the field goal, Dallas still wins 24-23. Haters are going to look for something to hate on, but all that matters is there was no flag, and the better team won.
Btw for the idiots who think it was the wrong call, here is a picture of the face mask on Detroit long before the possible(not really) pass interference on Dallas:
Add what field goal? They were driving with a 3 point lead with under 8:00 to play. Completely changed the momentum of the quarter. So, to answer the title of this thread, "No, the Cowboys are not close to being the best team in the NFL."

That was incredibly minor, not a "grab", totally incidental, and most importantly, NOT called in the first place. The blatent pass interference, however, was called. They ref ANNOUNCED the pass interference penalty, j@ckass!! If its questionable at all, you discuss it prior to announcing the call.I think most fans would have been happy with the equally beneficial (~15 yards and a 1st down) personal foul on Dez Bryant for running onto the field in protest without a helmet.

Hitchens also holds Pettigrew off the line, grabbing his jersey and partially pulling it out from behind.
Why are you guys arguing with "dial it up"? He would obviously know the quality of a call more than every single commentator/player/former player/former VP of officiating watching the pass interference in slow motion. He and the paid off refs are right, everyone else mentioned is wrong.

Agree with this, an \"EOT\" type of post that summates the sitch.
The highlight for me though was reading it in Tom Sellecks-Magnum P.I. eulogy-melancholy voice that he did at the end of the show.

you clearly didn't look at the reply because there was a blatant face mask on the play BEFORE the PI was called. find a different version than one the whining detroit fan posted that blatantly leaves off the face mask.
btw, i think the PI call was weak at best but that was the call and there is no way you can pick up the flag after calling it (no matter how weak the original call was).
btw, "looking back" or not is irrelevant.
also, dez definitely should have been hit with a 15-yarder. you can't run onto the field and argue with a ref.
also, the cowboys will get run off the field next week if they play the first half like they did today. i have to think they are pretty beaten up after today because detroit is a very physical/dirty team that hits hard.
Hahahaha I love the Cowboys haters grasping for straws. "One no call determined the complete outcome of a 60 minute football game." That is the best you can do? I feel bad for you losers. Not the 3 Lions turnovers? Not 17 unanswered points to end the game by Dallas? You are pathetic and I love it.

I really don't know how people can be sports fans anymore. Being from Detroit, I can't help but hate that it's always the Lions who get screwed, but, essentially, running, cycling, the major pro sports are no different than big time wrestling. Same drugs, same garish costumes, same script writers.
Yes, the Broncos did not lose today.
See you at the super bowl, chumps.
1) Sorry you have to be from Detroit
2) Sorry you are the dirtiest team in the league
3) Sorry you turned the ball over 3 times in a playoff game and still expected to beat a better team
4) Sorry you gave up 17 unanswered to the end the game and still expected to beat a better team
5) Sorry that "we lost to a team with a better record, who had home field, who had way more pro bowlers and all pros, and who is better" isn't an acceptable fact and you have to blame it on anything else you can get your hands on.
I found a better video. Pettigrew did get in his facemask. Not much of a tug however. It doesn't appear to affect how Hutchens defends the play at all. I mention him not looking back specifically because of that. He holds Pettigrew and never looks to make a play on the ball. Instead he pushes and ultimately runs over Pettigrew. It's not a weak PI, it's obvious. It isn't the worst I've seen, but was correctly called initially. But that's fine, offsetting penalties that weren't called. That is a replay of the down. Except, as you mentioned, it was called so you shouldn't overturn it. The facemask and hold weren't. The 15 yarder non-call on Bryant was the worst mistake. At minimum, a replay of down was in order. But an additional penalty on Bryant should have happened. I don't disagree with anything else you said.
Here is the explanation idiots, read it and weep. Just as I said on another thread, an official with a much better angle than the back judge over turned the call, which happens ALL THE TIME.
"The back judge threw his flag for defensive pass interference," Morelli said in a pool report. "We got other information from another official from a different angle that thought the contact was minimal and didn't warrant pass interference. He thought it was face guarding."
"Face guarding is a penalty in college football, but not at the pro level. Back judge Lee Dyer threw the flag on Hitchens from the far side of the field. Head linesman Jerry Bergman offered the different -- and ultimately deciding -- view."

Eeek! You are really bad at trolling. Honestly, is this the best you can do?!
