He wasn't going that fast & it was a long stretch of road so he had time plenty of time to plan & react. It's not like he just came around a 90 degree turn & suddenly a person popped in front of him.
She was backing towards the old guy at the end of the video who was going about the same pace as Blair & the old guy didn't run into her.
After seeing the video, I can't believe we're 22 pages into ANY debate over what happened. If someone shoved me in the back like that under those circumstances, I would have known that I was at least partially at fault and, more likely, I would have forgotten about it before I was a mile into my run...... totally stupid.... the RD and the chick's family/friends should be embarrassed that they made this into such a big deal.
p.s. The guy is obviously a bit of a douche as well. He could have avoided her to his left. Who gives a f#ck about the double yellow line when you're about to have a collision with someone... avoid her, move on,,, then there's no douchebag RD/friends/family to demonize you for being a douchebag on the 'net.
It looked like he was going very fast and nudged her slightly to avoid a full on collision. It looks like they took some choice freeze frames to make their side look better. They never posted the video because it made them look bad. The other runner moved erratically across the finish corral backwards.
Verdict. Blair shouldn't have been DQ'd and the whole incident is exaggerated.. Reinstate him.
What's with the RD? His comments are all wrong. That's very strange. I just watched the video and it appears that:
1) She was in the wrong lane (why did the RD say otherwise?)
2) The guy didn't punch her in the face (why did the RD say otherwise?)
3) She was at fault backing up into him.
4) The guy is a douche for not stopping and checking on her after contact.
5) The woman is a douche for bringing all these kids on the course (7 or 8 kids, really?).
However I don't think anybody should be DQed based on that. They are both self-absorbed, but that's not a crime. And this "incident" should never have been reported.

I just now saw the video and agree.
She backed into him at the very last instant. He had NO time to move or change his direction, and certainly did not know she was going to back right into him.
She is lucky he wasn't a flatbed truck.
Blair did nothing wrong here, and he was right in not stopping. When someone punches a bike rider on the TDF, they don't stop. Why would anyone stop? She was an idiot to be backing up in the middle of a road and ot paying any attention to what she was doing.
She was racing in a triathlon...? Looked like she was stopping for a picnic.

WTF, the old guy wasn't going 1/3 that pace, and good thing he wasn't because she continued backing up diagonally and came close to blocking him as well.

Two points:
1. Was Blair required to stay in his lane? If that is the case, it makes perfect sense that he didn't want to veer into the other lane and instead held his line, running the edge of the legal course.
2. Yes, she also almost ran into the older runner going in the same direction as her.....
After seeing the video, I am angry with three people: the blogger, Alison and the race director. I am not angry at Blair. I do think he could have handled it a little differently and tried to avoid her, but it was not nearly as bad as it was made out to be. She is a complete selfish, all about me b*tch. I honestly can't stand people like her. What the hell is she backing up in the middle of a race, just so she can get praise from her adoring "fans". And her finishing pictures really piss me off. I hate it when people think it is okay for them to even have one kid crossing the finish line with them, but a half dozen. What if every athlete did that; how much confusion would it cause and possibly altercations, with a kid getting run over. She should be dq'd twice, Blair probably not at all based on the evidence.
The video makes me angry. Angry because I was actually on her side. I am generally of the belief that recreational athletes and even professional athletes need to get over themselves. However, this was not his fault at all. Yes there was room to go around but he did not hit her that hard. Even at 7 minute pace coming into contact with someone going the opposite direction will very easily put them on the ground. That she wasn't on the ground shows that he likely used restraint. It's hard to make assumptions about what he saw, whether or not he thought she would continue backing up. He may have been fixated on the road ahead or spacing out, or focusing on the runner in front of him. At the end of a race, it's easy to be pretty out of it.
In any case she was something close to 100% at fault and she created the problem.

She is entitled to bring in as many kids as she wants to, and other people are not. She is a "kind and forgiving" humanitarian, and other people are not. That's the world according to Alison.
Wow. That is not a punch. It isn't even a shove. It is more of a stiff arm, or block from another runner backing into him. The guy should not receive a DQ.
This whole thing has been blown out of proportion. I was expecting to see a woman get struck from behind and knocked to the ground.
Woman walking at an even, predictable pace, diagonally towards the center of the road and towards approaching Tri-Hero.
Tri-Hero actually moves towards woman a few strides before contact despite having no obstacles directly in his path (the first point at which you see Hero he is on the line, by the time he stiff-arms the competition he is a single foot-width inside the line).
Tri-Hero has to extend his arm to make contact as their bodies are about 6 inches apart when he strikes. Gives a nice lean into the strike as well.
Say what you want about how the chick shouldn't have been walking backwards not paying attention, Tri-Hero here actually went out of his way to make a point to hit her.
I hope he feels good about himself as a man.
I heard he kicked her in the face during the swim too.
The is no way the RD saw that video and decided to DQ'd him. I assume he just listened to the whining of her friends.
He also lied about the course layout in his posts on ST.
Shame on him.
