Having followed LRC for a while and as some incentive even though Jan tried to ruin the NSM thread, I am here to make an offer.
If he documents his training as open source on Strava so we can chat, discuss things and actually see this is real, plus then break 20 in an actual race, I will donate £2,000 to a charity of Jan's choice (perhaps something in Kenya as that is something I share a passion with like Jan?)
Even if he does this and fails in the race, but documents the whole journey with verifiable runs in Strava, I will donate £1,000 still but the caveat is Jan must agree he will never start another thread on Letsrun again.
Happy to share my details with Jan or one of the mods here can set this up and I'm happy to disclose my details and it'll be a bit of fun for everyone and have some stakes.
Hopefully others would be interested in this and I think will finally make Jan accountable.
I'm in! Accidentally clicked on this thread rather than the NSM thread as I wasn't paying attention and am greatly amused. Especially since Jan was so vocal about his training over on the big thread ha ha
I'm pretty easily found to claim the monies. Put me down for £250/£125 just for my own entertainment to see the "magic" happen with a good cause at the end of it, hopefully Jan has a charity in mind.
Can't see why he would say no as he's going to do this anyway and a full year seems reasonable. Would be very impressive to even get close to running sub 20 at his age and genuinely, good luck. Hope he does it.
Why is this guy getting so much hate? Whats the lore behind this? Seems like a great goal to me for an older man looking to improve his health/fitness
Because so many lies and half truths, and his obsession with his dancan method which is Daniels but not as hard intervals while shooting down any other training approaches and self promotion where not warranted.
good luck to him but this fail using dancan - he has already cut short workouts due to fatigue. In 2027 it will be a new thread saying the same. If he jumped in with NSM training he would do far better but this goal will be tough to beat regardless of the method.

Hi, it goes back a long time. It's as you know difficult to learn an old dog to sit. I came on here 11 years ago with the controversial knowledge a world record can be run even at the marathon on as little as 6 sessions per week as long as the runner is supertalented .Since then I have had a lot of coaching cases here and some of them turned out to be people fraud me . I have really done great coaching cases and can prove every one. But as you know there is easy to get stalkers and jelous people here who have been stalked me and tried to miscredit my coaching all the time. 🧙♂️

You are of course wrong when you say Dancan is Daniels. It's not! Dancan is a mix of as I think the very best in the methods by Canova, Daniels, Lydiard, Gerschler and Stampfl plus my own ideas added. If you compare Dancan with NSM you will find Dancan gives faster clear positive results and the runners reach their best individual results on relatively very low volume . I repeat, magic don't exist of course, but when a runner starts the Dancan method the fast improvement looks to be magical. 🧙♂️😎🇸🇪

Strange claims you have ? Is running 10 x 1000m threshold cutting a workout short? Or 2x 2k + 2x 1.5 k + 3 x 1000m....?

And then again, they break down.
They didn't break down. Some of my coaching cases I only had 2-3 months before they ran personal bests and even won big races . Then due to different causes some of them quit the coaching and some kept on couple of years just running personal bests after another.

Thanks, If I won't get injured or get some health problem at my age 66 it feels now I'm going to fix this sub 20 this year. When it happens my stalkers won't be so keen to comment here , LoL ! 😉🧙♂️😎
Breaking down, like i said. Some of them don't even want to communicate with you.
With a new coach they even got faster PB's
I guess what case you refer to when you say broke down . But that case was very special in many ways .....
The other case you refer to got faster pb:s with a new coach doesn't take away I during 2 years coached pb:s one after another all the time when he was under my wings. New pb:s all the way up from 1500m/ mile to the marathon. If he as you say ran new pb:s with a new coach I just congratulate him and is happy for him . He and I had a very good time together ....... 🧙♂️

It'd be fun to watch this guy legitimately pursue this goal, if that's what this thread is really about. It's not about that, though. This thread is a way to circumvent the forum rules to promote his coaching services. I don't think he has any intention whatsoever of legitimately running a sub 20 5k.

Well, I assure you I put up this thread to give me an extra motivation to reach my goal to run a sub 20 min 5 k which I now see in my training really is doable within this year. I have run a 14:20 as best back in 1987 so I'm of course more talented than most hobbyjoggers trying to improve their times.Even if I haven't trained seriously last 26 years I'm surprised how fast my body is into my old national elite training 6 sessions per week.I have tried a comeback like this a couple of times before last years but then I worked fulltime as a school teacher and now when I got a pensioner last September it's so easy to train when I have all days to train and recover. It's just perfect. 🧙♂️
Today a maxVO2 interval 17 x 300m @ 1:26 min ( 4:48 min / km , easy walkrest back to pulse 120 . Max pulse 165 .
Now a nice day off tomorrow and then a new training week . 🧙♂️
Curious how long the rests were. That would tell me something about how fit you currently are. Perhaps around 25 minute shape or better if the rests were 1:00-15ish.

When I didn't use a fixed rest like 60 or 90 sec and instead the old Gerschler rest back to 120 bpm I needed 90 sec average rest.

The training this week points to I can run a 25 min 5 k now and I will make a try next Saturday to do a TT 5k 25 min .🧙♂️

But why 120 bpm, this could be zone 0 for some and zone 3 for others, for thr runners he was working with it was when it hit zone 1 but is that the case with you Jan? Is the top of zone 1 exactly 120 bpm? This is why 120 bpm is flawed
