Maybe poor tactics from Fisher, but who would have expected a 12.7 from Gressier? He's never been a big time player before. Has he shown this before, and I missed it?
Congrats to him. That's a really big, nice win.
Gressier: He won gold medals in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres at the 2019 European Under-23 Championships. Gressier claimed four individual medals at the European Cross Country Championships, including three U23 titles. He is the European record holder for the 5 km road race.
Why would she be the national wildcard? She was 9th in the points standings but several of the top 8 didn't show up.
She also received the DL trophy at the final ceremony.
I am not saying she is a national wild card entry. I made my post to answer what happens when a national wild card entrant wins the event.
Werro was national wild card when the entries were originally released behind the 7 auto qualifiers. Duguma subsequently pulled out and Maloney was added. I guess this changes Werro status to auto qualifier as she subsequently received the trophy.

Yes, and he's run 12:51 and 26:58 - but that's of course well behind Fisher. He's also 28, so presumably no more big jumps.
Amending the rules so athletes of the level of Kovacs get in is a no brainer for me. I'd rather scrap the world champ getting a wildcard. Crouser could leave it till the last minute and still not be fit. Then you have the real world number 1 sitting on the bench for nothing. Imagine he turns up and retires first round. Maybe a good time to make the self-sacrifice and just give the spot to his US buddy. Would be quite special if he did that.
I think going to a max of 5 per country would be fair for now, perhaps limiting it to either DL winner and top ten in rankings? I think leveraging world champs qualification would be a good way of getting more Americans competing in Europe. That extra spot should bring more over. Could even go for 6 as long as they are premium athletes in rankings.
Also, the second best event of the year is always the US trials. Making the worlds purely rankings based effectively makes your championships redundant. Nobody will need to turn up and lots of them won't. After all as ThoughtsLeader said it's an individual sport so why would they need to care about the national vest, be better off wearing their sponsors vest, their the ones that pay the athletes.
Worlds would truly be spoiled if they all turned up in Nike vests etc. It's like in the Golf where the selfish individualist libertarians decide that how they can max their earnings matters far more than their national historic tour. The sort of bone headed short sightedness that has led US and Western elites to sell off all it's manufacturing. But hey getting rich is all that matters yea?
Does that "teenage" Ethiopian SHOVE someone in every race. Getting sick of that lil dude.
The Ethiopians / East Africans have been known for flagrant fouls of that type for many years - and they get away with it 99% of the time. Those poor Africans are afforded a lot of leeway when comes to shoving/impeding other runners. Chris Solinsky could tell you about flagrant fouls from these sneaky rats, guys like Yenew Alamirew. Wanyonyi loves to accidentally move out, grabbing and bumping the arms of anyone next to him if it’s a very tight race.

Hahahaha. Sorry that some of actually have memories. I know you don't want facts to get in the way of your made-up fan fiction.
Wanyoni has never grabbed anyone. He literally just runs away from his slower competition, especially Americans who were nowhere close to him in the DL final today.😆😆
Here is the incident you where 165-pound Solinsky was 'run off the track' by the 120-pound Ethiopian. Watch 15-30 seconds into the video:
Solinksky himself said there was no foul. He just didn't position himself well, got tangled up, and in his poor coordination he ran off the track all on his own with two laps to go, missing a chance at the 5000 AR when he was in top fitness.

He's avoided DQs but is teetering on the edge. Many of the African runners are pushy and grabby. Pro officials seem to allow more "incidental contact" than high school officials, amusingly.
