You see a lot of small private schools in Class A - Cotter/Hope Lutheran being two of them. Most of them, frankly, are not terribly good (you're certainly not going to most of these for their facilities) and I can't imagine any are able to recruit for running like CDH, STA or Minnehaha for big-ticket sports.
I think the bigger issue in Class A is co-ops. Of the teams who made it to state, the following are co-ops (Biggest Class A school with no co-op is 414 enrollment, Glencoe-Silver Lake):
1. LA/RP/H - 552 enrollment (1st Place Boys)
2. Loyola-Cleveland-St. Clair-Mankato Christian - 547 (3rd Place Girls)
3. North Shore - 452
4. Heritage Christian-West Lutheran-RiverTree - 376
5. UNC (Menagha/Sebeka) - 374
6. Cotter-Hope Lutheran - 371 (2nd Place Boys)
7. LQPV/Dawson-Boyd - 357
8. Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin - 340
9. Mountain Lake - Comfrey - Red Rock - Mt Lake Christian - 262
10. Trinity/Unity - 171, pretty small actually
11. Northwest Nighthawks - Homeschool coop, so their enrollment is the exact number of athletes on the team
If I was a moderately competitive Class A program with under 300 enrollment, I'd be looking to co-op before anything else. 3 of the 6 podium finishers were co-ops, and none of the other podium finishers were under 300 enrollment.
