To Norwegian media: in the race today I wasnt the best runner. I felt it quite early. When Kerr came I had nothing to answer with/no shot. (.. after questions about comparing with last year) last year I was the best but didn't win, this year I wasn't the best. I have no excuses.
Seems like he has accepted it and takes it with stride. Very calm but disappointed.
It is insane to me that there are people who enjoy watching him lose. “He’s overconfident!” He ran a top 5 all time 1500, set a world best ever over 2 miles, went undefeated and frankly largely unchallenged in *frequent* Diamond League races, had Olympic gold from two years ago, and a razor’s margin from double double at last year’s WCs including a gold in what isn’t even his best event defeating the WR holder in the process. Precisely what is the acceptable level of confidence for him to express to avoid criticism?
I like his confidence. It's just a joy to see the competition and be surprised though. It's a real unfinished narrative until the actual race.

As a fan I'm sad. If there's anyone who can get that double, it's him
for all your grandstanding about arrogance you sure do jerk yourself off a lot
You're not wrong.
July 18, from the "I am the pacemaker" thread
Jakob dismisses the idea of practicing un-paced races, yet in his only un-paced race with serious competition last year he was trashed by a runner with a slower PR. All the 1500s he ran on the track in 2022 were personally paced DL races, and a slow win at European champs. The LetsRun question was smart: "Should you practice racing unpaced events?"
Was this what you said? I don't understand what is so astute about this? It's pretty easy to pick the field vs. one runner.
I think this is one of the dumbest takes. Maybe Kerr just was stronger today.
I am sorry, but if you have better TT ability and lose the race, BY DEFINITION you are a worse racer.
Or he just wasnt better? I mean there may be things that should be done differently, but lets not pretend a 2x silver WC medalist and olympic gold winner doesn’t know how to race.

There was another thread in which some Italian commentator was quoted as saying that JI has some bit of injury and might not run the 5000m. Perhaps he was right?
Jakob mentions in Norweigan media that he has a possible cold.
Ppl on here are jealous and wanna see others fail. Jakob is a big personality and talks a big game - this is all good for our sport. He lost todays. No need for the pile on
Is the hate going to flow on this board if the pole vaulters decide to both take gold and go home?
I've always found the prospect of going back down to a lower height to decide the winner to be odd. If their score cards are even at this point in the competition, I'm 100% fine with them sharing the gold.
