Regardless of the outcome, this has the makings of a blockbuster movie.
That being said, it's not looking good. I'm hoping for a miracle (which would make for a much better movie btw).
Eh? If they get out it's a great movie.
If not, it's a movie about five men stuck at the bottom of the ocean in a titanium can in pitch darkness for three days before dying of oxygen starvation and never found. Real family entertainment!
I do not think they have any chance of survival. However, what if a miracle happens and they are rescued? What does the CEO do then? Does he continue to go on other dives and insist that the sub is safe? Or does he refuse to go down again, which is basically an admission by the CEO that his sub is dangerous? If the company CEO refuses to dive, it is clear that NOBODY should be diving.
The company is finished regardless of what happens next

The Navy uses gaming consoles on its submarines but they are wired in. The gaming consoles on the Titan are operated by bluetooth. Did they ever think that the bluetooth might get disconnected 2.5 miles down in the ocean?
"Crew members are told they can release the ballast by rocking the ship or use a pneumatic pump to knock the weights free, Newman said. If all else fails, he said, the lines securing the ballast are designed to fall apart after 24 hours to automatically send it back to the ocean’s surface."
So why didn't it come up? Most likely scenario to me seems that there was a weakness which caused it to crumble under pressure.
Though it’s roughly the size of a minivan, with five adults aboard, the Titanic-touring submersible that went missing Sunday may seem small and cramped. And on the dive thousands of feet towards the bottom of the North Atlant...

Haha what an idiot. There is no way id be relying on Bluetooth.
How many times have you had to reboot a phone or PC bc it wouldnt connect to a bluetooth device? A millionty.

What’s your point? Ocean Gate is headquartered in Washington.
Also, even the most highly regulated industries have failures, e.g., Boeing 737 Max.
Nationwide there are about 50,000 flights every day. How many failures are there each year? The Titan has made 3 trips to the Titanic and 1 ended in disaster. That is a failure rate of 33%.

Bluetooth won’t work even a foot under water, but they appear to be using it inside the sub, which is fine assuming they would’ve had spare batteries.

The Challenger failed on its 10th flight. The Columbia failed on its 28th flight. Not exactly stellar numbers for those crafts.
You increase the risk of the mission, and you increase the likelihood of failure.
I wouldn’t have stepped on board of that submersible, but those who did knew there was risk.
I’m fine with regulation for risky endeavors for the masses such as air travel. A little niche market like going to the bottom of the ocean floor or climbing Everest, I think it’s proceed at your own risk.
My original point was that I don’t know what DeSantis or Florida has to do with this. Maybe I’m not following this story closely enough.

So are tax payers going to get reimbursed for the expenses of this search? I’m guessing it has cost a lot of money and we know the billionaires in that death trap have the money to pay for it. Hope all costs associated with this search are paid for out of their estates before anyone in their wills inherits a dime. I feel bad they died but if you have the money to pay for something this stupid, no way tax payers should be paying to save you.

Don’t worry, the search and rescue is a conservative operation as it’s obviously pro-life. In case you are a liberal, don’t worry either coz it’s all for improving our scientific understanding of the ocean floor and high-pressure rescue operations.
In case they don’t reimburse you, just angrily vote them out, whoever they are, if they are at all elected officials.

Why would that happen? It's a signal going from one device in the sub to another--distance below the surface of the earth or pressure would not play into its functioning.
