Here is what you are wrong. You have autonomy. You can get the vax or get a test (which is not an intervention or procedure) . There is not a single vax mandate in the US that doesn't give you a choice. You have vast information about both.

Furthermore in emergencies the doctrine of informed consent is not relevant per the AMA. You seem to have a simple uneducated view of informed consent. It's not simply I can do whatever I want.

793338 deaths coded as "COVID-19 (U071, Underlying Cause of Death)"

I agree with your general pro-vaccine stance, but I don't know if such insulting responses are necessary.

Also, most hospitals I know of require their workers to be vaccinated, which we (pro-vaccine people) should admit is an imposition of authority over workers' autonomy in making their own health care decisions. Sure - the employee can quit in protest, but not many people have that type of financial freedom; so that amounts to a de facto mandate.

I also take issue with your citation of implied consent. That specifically applies when the patient cannot consent (eg. traumatic aortic injury in unconscious patient --> implied consent for emergent surgery); or when there is IMMINENT threat of harm to self or others. The potential benefits of vaccination are not realized for weeks, if not months, so the imminent threat argument cannot be applied here, for this and several other reasons.

In general, it would be nice to see a more open, honest, and respectful tone in this and other conversations about vaccination (and quite frankly, most important issues of the day). I believe that better communication will help us increase vaccination rates and bridge knowledge gaps about the risks (extremely small but non-zero) and benefits (vast) of vaccination.

Insults are 100% necessary when you are dealing with people, including doctors, who believe in forcing needles in children’s arms who have no risk with this potion…and people who want to yank these kids away from their families and chuck them in concentration camps. You are very lucky you are only getting insulted. Your minds are poisoned and it’s our duty to point that out.

I got yelled at when I was going for my booster by an anti-vax group. I wish I could more respectful but it is difficult when you've already been assaulted once.

The point about implied consent was to demonstrate that it is not the sole guiding principle in healthcare. I used an obvious example to demonstrate this for those who lack an understanding of nuance. It is a consideration for sure but other factors also weigh.

Basically vaccines work. If anything the data has gotten stronger since you started doomer-posting about Omicron (after thankfully shutting up for a month when your Delta predictions didn't pan out; still waiting for the mea culpa there).

The data hasn't gotten stronger. 52% VE against hospitalization versus 95-99% VE against hospitalization does not sound stronger in my frame of thinking (maybe it does in yours). As for the study you are claiming makes claims that natural immunity is not real (this study is mostly a study comparing the severity of outcomes between Omicron and Delta, not reinfections versus breakthrough infections), it actually supports the idea that natural immunity is real and robust. From the study

"Notably, the risk of symptomatic hospitalization was markedly reduced among cases who had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection ≥90 days prior (0.32 vs 2.08 symptomatic hospitalizations per 1000 person-days at risk among cases with Omicron vs. Delta variant infections, respectively). Although ascertainment of SARS-CoV-2 infection history is imperfect because many infections may have gone untested or may not have been documented in a patient’s EHR, prior infection among individuals with a history of a positive SARS-CoV-2 test result should be accurately coded and false positive PCR tests are rare. Thus, the finding of a reduction in severity of Omicron in patients with known prior infection is compelling evidence of an intrinsically less severe infection, rather than only different (more immune) persons becoming infected with the Omicron variant."

If you actually read the study and not just the summation (pay attention to table 2):

The sample size for hospitalizations is extraordinarily small, especially for the previously infected (235 Omicron hospitalizations in total, likely only one of which was a person with a previous infection). So your claim is likely based on a sample size of one. However, what you find for cases is eye opening and reinforces the power of natural immunity. There were 16,929 documented cases with S-gene target failure in this study (Omicron cases). Of them 43 were among people with a documented prior infection (0.25%), 8,419 were among individuals with no vaccination in their EHR (which is not the same as unvaccinated, but we will go with it), 869 were in individuals who had received a booster dose (5.13%) and 7,641 were in individuals with two doses or less (45.1%). Let's compare that to overall data from California. where at that date there had been about 5.5 million confirmed COVID cases out of a population of 39.56 million people. 66% of the population is vaccinated and about 30% of the population is boosted.

Previously infected individuals represent 13.9% of the population, but represent 0.25% of the Omicron cases in this study (about 55 times less than one would expect)

Boosted individuals represent 30% of the population, but represent 5.13% of the Omicron cases in this study (about 6 times less than one would expect)

Double vaxxed or less individuals represent 36% of the population, but represent 45.1% of the Omicron cases in this study (about 20% more than what one would expect).

So, at least according to this study, natural immunity is more than 9 times more effective than triple boosted immunity, and almost 69 times more effective than double vaccinated immunity or less at preventing infection. Natural immunity is powerful.

I feel like this has been intuitively known all along, yet for some reason was actively suppressed. I think people are catching on as well. Most people I know who have received both shots are not getting a booster and those who have received one booster will not be getting another.

it's time to tell people to get on with their lives. Provide all the information in terms of vaccines and risks and let people choose their own paths. That would not only be the best thing for the population (assuming US), but for the current administration as well. Unfortunately, the most obvious choice has been being passed over for the most restrictive it seems.

It says nothing about degree of protection relative to being seronaive or vaxxed. Another classic attempt at misinterpretation.

The irony of someone spending the last 4 months saying "medical records don't have an accurate picture of who is/isn't vaccinated!!1" then assuming that medical records DO have a good picture of who has a positive COVID test is.... strong.

As usual, you have to resort to doing your own flawed gymnastics on the raw data to make your point. Is all the math that the scientists do too complicated for you to relate or are you simply trying to sidestep their conclusions?

I will issue a retraction. I used the analysis on the delta data and not the Omicron data. Additionally, 83% have received at least one dose in California. 66% was the double vaccinated rate at the time of the study. If I apply those figures to the data, it reveals the following:

There were 52,641 documented cases with S-gene target failure in this study (Omicron cases). Of them 508 were among people with a documented prior infection (0.97%), 13,848 were among individuals with no vaccination record in their EHR (26.31%, which is not the same as unvaccinated, but we will go with it), 1,454 were in individuals who were partially vaccinated (2.76%), 29,352 were in individuals who were fully vaccinated (55.76% either two doses of mRNA or single dose of Jansenn), 7,479 were in individuals who had received a booster dose (14.21%). Let's compare that to overall data from California. where at that date there had been about 5.5 million confirmed COVID cases out of a population of 39.56 million people. 83% have received at least one dose, 66% of the population is fully vaccinated and about 30% of the population is boosted.

So, at least according to this study, natural immunity is more than 7 times more effective than triple boosted immunity, 2.3 times more effective than partially vaccinated immunity, and 22 times more effective than double vaccinated or unvaccinated immunity at preventing infection. Fully vaccinated immunity is statistically on a par with unvaccinated immunity with regards to preventing infection. Natural immunity is powerful.
