With the democrats' genius idea of giving out loans to people based on feelings rather than credit score houses were going up over 10% per year before the housing market crashed in 2008. It took 5 years for the market to recover and from 2013 to 2020 the market was stable going up 3-6% per year.
In 2021 and 2022 housing prices shot up 20%.

Propert taxes are tied directly to the value of your property. Ask your wife to walk you through this... Have her type it out and you can read through it the next time you sit down to pee.

The tax assessed is a proportion of the home's value.
If the value goes up the tax goes up.
The tax isn't increased without notification. In my county it's called a proposed value notice. I bought my house in 2015 and this is the 2nd time my property taxes have been increased. From the last valuation to the 2024 valuation my house's market value has gone up 35%. I live in a midwest suburb.
