This got real very quickly… I appreciate all the upvotes but couldn’t I of gone up against some smallfry first? Feels a bit like I’m swimming against the tide a bit with this match up 😂

Ko was a a trial technology consultant for trial lawyers, and that niche was squashed by the pandemic (when hearings became less formal and frequently done over zoom). I think he went like a year without drawing a salary, and he still had his own employees and bills to pay. Closing his consumting firm stopped the bleeding, actually.

So he needed a different day job anyway. He could have gotten back into practicing law if the YouTuber thing didn’t pan out. Still can, I guess.

When he closed his business a couple years ago, he indicated that it was because Mrs. Ko made a ton of money and it made sense for the family for him to be a quasi-stay-at-home dad which gave him more time to be a YouTuber. I think the family moved to the suburbs and the kids are older so he can now fly around for seemingly endless STCJs.

I think he produced videos in civil cases. He mentioned something about how his work involved video editing back before his channel became a world tour.

When I first started running a few years ago I absolutely loved Ben Parkes vids. Everything was new and fresh for me, his energy is great and presents the information on shoes, training, workouts in a simple, easy to digest way. As I progressed and improved most of it became irrelevant to me so I no longer watch (except the odd race video).

I think he does a great job appealing to newbies and having 250k subscribers will certainly draw them in and give your channel a perceived level of credibility which is only compounded by the non-biased shoe reviews (which are probably tax write offs).

To be clear any business can deduct "costs of goods sold" or COGS, from their gross income, and pay taxes based on net income (or "profit"). For someone like Ben Parkes, buying shoes that you intend to do reviews on, in the process of creating content about them, is entirely fair use of COGS. It is necessary for him to buy the shoe to do his business. So it's not much that they are "write off", they simply and naturally offset his gross income and yes, do reduce his tax liability. Nothing wrong about it. Imagine the opposite...you'd pay taxes on more than your net income and still have to pay for shoes on top of it.

Yeah he's legitimately one of the worst out there.

Put out a video about how Aflie had beaten Phil Sesseman in some random offseason 3k so therefore Alfie should be able to make a living from running? Then doubled down in the comments claiming to know nothing about the sport or some nonsense.

Also hilarious his profile is set up to suggest he's a dentist, but he's a dental hygenist.

Pro tip for influencers trying to fluff up your IRL career, dont lie about jobs that have professional registers involved because it takes 10 seconds to know you're lying.

Andy is one of few YTbers who seems to create content because he WANTS to which makes them very watchable and enjoyable. His videos come across genuine and it doesn't feel like he's pumping out videos to appease the algorithm.

Big fan of FOD, Ran To Japan and The Distance Project to name a few who go for the less is more/all killer no filler approach to video making.

I'm slightly baffled why he has such a following/brand value. He is very unlikeable and has no knowledge of the sport.

Ytbers I don't engage with (e.g Aubrey, Fordy, Floberg) I 100% get why they have a following, I'm not their target audience/just doesn't float my boat. I'm honestly baffled who's following dentalrunner and getting value from his content.

Annoys me that I have to pay an extra 0.0001p for Asics super shoe as they're marketing budget has been spent on him.

This guy is one of the only influencers I've gone to the effort of blocking on all platforms. Constantly get served his videos through the algorithm despite not following him and every one irritates me. Can't quite put my finger on what it is, apart from the stupid haircut

Jake is arguably the most underrated running YouTuber right now and one of the few truly worth following. He keeps his content fresh and engaging, which is more than I can say for most of the popular channels. Honestly, I’ve grown tired of the endless full-send parkrun videos. Jakes going to be a menace in future ultras. He looked absolutely spent at the end of wings for life though .

Just noticed that Kofuzi is in Japan again for another STCJ.

Tiger Dad’s (all heart racing) kids did not perform up to his expectations in today’s Orange County marathon. Failed sub 2:50 attempt. Hopefully this is a wake up call to allow is kids to be just kids. No reason for his children to be running +80 miles per week.
