There are various recommendations by many coaches regarding foot landing techniques in distance running that are meant to improve running performance and prevent injuries. Several studies have investigated the kinematic and k...
Looks like Felton and Barraclough met up in Japan. Hope they do a collab. Should be fun.
Ben has an amazing lifestyle. Him and his partner are out in Japan!
Can't seem him adding much to a Barraclough video. Ben will be more smeared across the content, rather than adding any interest.
Also saw thedentalathlete was running with them both. Find him quite dull.
I'm in Liberal snowflake camp and alot of my posts are defending YTbers.
But..... I've blocked dental athlete as I think he's a big douche/stain on running community. So I'm sad that he's getting top quality gigs like this.
He had a post calling out slow runners and ultra runners, really gatekeeping our sport after being involved in it 2 minutes. I commented back and forth and he doubled down. He seems to be Alfie Manthorpes lap dog, saying things he thinks Alfie would like to here. (I'm not saying Alfie agrees with this elitist sh*t but it's like Dental Athelte is trying to impress someone with gatekeeping nonsense).
Unfortunately he's from Sheffield, my "home city" where I was born and raised, were meant to be friendly people, but his elitism based off a couple of fast hobby jogger times really went to his head.

I don't begrudge running youtubers their lifestyle. I much prefer doing my 9-5 job and keeping running as a hobby. I wouldn't want to hang my livelihood and retirement planning on being a running influencer. Sure you get free trips, but what's your actual take-home pay at the end of the day? There are some youtubers like MKBHD who have managed to grow their channels and become successful financially, but I think they're few and far between.

Can’t stand that guy, looking on his instagram he has 30k followers and hardly any engagement on videos. Is he massive on TikTok or something? It’s crazy that brand marketing used to be focused on the superstars of sports, people that you idolised and aspired to be.
You’re a very reasonable person and entirely right here! Some of the posts are incredibly cringy. Going into work with his medals when he wins a tinpot race and showing them off to all his clients. Even his social media name / tag is, I think, to suggest he’s a dentist when he’s actually an oral hygienist.

I find it funny that I'm being downvoted for this. Do people here actually want to be running youtubers? If you think it's such a great gig, what's stopping you from doing it too? Any smartphone camera nowadays is good enough to film and editing is pretty easy. The barrier to entry is low.
Of course some people will have gone off far too fast and blown up, Ben chasing an absurd time based on what I'd seen, and philly I'm guessing going with the faster pacing pack to avoid running solo. This happens in every marathon. It doesn't mean that heat wasn't a factor for many good runners. These things are not mutually exclusive.
Felton keeps setting goals he hasn't earned, his fastest legal marathon was 2:24:59, he failed his aiming for 2:22:xx build (which, no shame per se, I can't do a 2:22 marathon) but you haven't earned a 2:20 or 2:18 goal if you haven't hit your 2:22 one yet, yafeel?
I think Phily Bowden has a 2:23 (maybe even a 2:20) in her, in a paced race, but I think she was also punching above her weight class trying to hit qual times in a race she has to have known she'd be running as a time trial, or soloing for large portions of it.

I reckon they do pretty well. Ben F, Ben P, Bester and Philly all bring in enough to support them and their partners. They must be earning more than the dull jobs they were doing. There are a lot of high margin revenue streams they can tap into: from selling merch to using ChatGPT to generate training plans for £150 a month.
It's not like any of them gave up a high flying career. If they are sensible they can squirrel away some money for retirement. Also, they are getting some amazing experiences for free - who (if they did not have kids) would not want to spend 6-weeks in Kenya then Jet off to Japan.

If people think this is a better and easier job than what they're currently doing, then they should give it a shot. I'm not being sarcastic. If the lifestyle is appealing and people think it would bring a better income, then I encourage people to pick up a smartphone camera and go for it. There's literally no investment involved other than some of time and effort.

Agreed. The YTings acts a great store front/advert for their coaching. For successful skilled ones there's money to made. Kudos to them, I'm jealous.
With Ben F, you know he's doing well as he isn't coaching. I'm confident based on his engagement and likability (comes across as a decent guy) he'd get lots of clients paying a decent whack and he knows this. He must be doing all right, to not see it as worth his time atm.

Two wonderful young people. They are such a credit to this sport we love.
Running has come a long way since I was their age. I can see both dropping their marathon times in the next few years. Felton to around 2:15 and Barraclough to 2:10
At KM 15 in a half marathon, 75% of elite runners were rearfoot striking.
In fairness that is from 2007. Long before Vaporfly entered the arena and whilst you probably can heel strike in those. It wont be getting the most out of the technology. So it makes sense to run in a fashion that maximises the benefits
Starting a new feature on this sub which I will sporadically post over the next few weeks/months. Lots of big match ups of 32 (or maybe 16 if I can’t think of 32) ‘influencers’. Culminating in the crowning of our favourite YouTuber. We like to mock and laugh at many on here but who do we actually like? Who escapes our ire and gets to be crowned champion.
Vote either up or down depending on your choice.
Round 1 - match 1/16. Feel free to comment as to why you came to this judgement.

how much do you guys think felton is making in terms of annual income (let's say net). ignore the value of any trips he's flown out to (not going to count what airfare and hotel could costs). let's just talk about actual money he makes from youtube and sponsors since this is what he does full time and he has no other part time jobs..are we talking something smaller like $30k and he probably lives modestly so that covers his housing, food and other expenses for the year? i feel like this is the most likely and the guy just is making it work year over year but not saving much for the long term and probably doesn't have much of a net worth..or do you guys really think he's making something solid like $75k-$100k+? i feel like it has to be an overall lower income and that maybe his lifestyle just doesn't require high expenses so it works for him. but maybe i'm super uninformed about how lucrative a running youtube channel can be...i just don't see how or why he'd be making six figures from his videos and few sponsors that he has had.
makes me wonder what all the others are actually making? if they are generally just spending what they make and bringing in pretty low #s compared to a normal corporate job would pay for someone college educated...or if they really are making big money from YT and are still able to set themselves up for their future/retirement
Who else here wants to see some “Everything I Sh*t in a Day as a D1 runner?”
I mean, the “everything I eat in a day” with the exact same thing by every mediocre d bag with a camera and narcissism is just so fascinating, so I’d request this next logical step

Kofuzi did a video showing how much he made in youtube ad revenue in 2024. Comparing the actual number to the estimate on Viewstats, it seems Viewstats gave a pretty good estimate. If we assume Viewstats is accurate for other running channels as well, then we can make some guesses.
Let's take Ben Is Running as an example. Viewstats estimates that he made $40k in ad revenue in the past year. I'm not sure how much he gets paid for sponsorship videos in the running space, but some larger channels (1M+ subs) in other niches pull in $5k+ per sponsored video. So let's say $1.5k per sponsored video and 4 sponsored videos per month. That's $72k per year. He also does affiliate marketing on other social media platforms like Instagram, so maybe that's another $15k. Comes out to $127k a year. That's not bad! The people here who want this lifestyle should give it a shot.

I agree it could well be around this number, if not higher. FOD might be able to clarify. But rather than sponsored videos, Ben seem to have deals for a race build up series.
You'd be surprised how much some of these guys make, influencer marketing is huge at the moment. That being said, most probably get free kit.
Worth a shot sirpoc? Myself and all the hobby joggers would subscribe in a flash!
