Rupp in 5th. He doesn't have the wheels anymore for a very tactical 29 min race. Terrible strategy on his part. He knows better than this. He would have been better off taking this out in 28 flat and then he'd have only had 2 or 3 with him at the end. Oh well.
Just like Shalane did?
Look, we can't criticize BOTH of their strategies...
Meade is your champion. Yikes.
Back to the men's 1500 from, what, two hours ago?
Hasn't anyone officially explained what's going on? Have the talking heads spoken of this on the NBC broadcast? Still the USATF website results show Hunter's times in yellow and the final three qualifiers not yet chosen. How lame is this??? Hunter might complete puberty by the time a decision is reached!
I'm not sure any strategy would work for him anymore at 10K and below tbh. But certainly a 29 min sit and kick was never going to work for a converted marathon runner. I think we all knew that.
Now they show q's next to both Hunter and Saarel
It's MEAD. Why yikes? He has been one of the top guys for a while now.

Well it was a good run these past several years for Rupp. I just hope he's got it in him to hammer a 2:07/2:08 big city marathon -- hopefully faster. If not, he's probably not far off from retirement. It was a good ride.
He does not. No guy who is basically a 2:10 guy is going to make a huge jump to 2:07. He ran Boston and barely...barely went under 2:10
This is my thing. He should have never run Boston if he knew he was going to go after 10,000m again. After Rio, he should have went straight back to running 10,000 meters so that his speed wouldn't have dropped. Then after Worlds he could have focused on a marathon.
The great thing about this is he can now just focus on the marathon....do chicago or Berlin...

Mead has lived in the US since he was 11 years old. Chill with the xenophobia. It's not easy to become an American citizen and they're all proud to represent our country.

Totally agree. I can't say I understand why they took this approach.
America is a country of immigrants. These guy come here and earn their citizenship buy serving in the military in some capacity. If someone wants to make a US team natural born or naturalized..they need to train harder.
Finally posted on the USATF men's 1500 results page. Hunter is IN.
And so is Saarel. So they took four, not three "q" qualifiers. Hunter beat Saarel by .12 secs.
That means that seven runners from Heat 3 made the final.
13 guys beat me to those final men's 1500 qualifier results. (Note to self: don't race 13 guys...defeat would likely follow.)

All these countries with foreigners takes away from the native born representing their country. It's a world problem with many nations having mostly Kenyan and Ethiopians on their rosters.
It just means Kenyan and Ethiopia as two examples actually get many runners in the championships meets now.
They already fill up the track tours.
It needs to be reversed.

Nope. The marathon is Rupp's future. He's 31 and has already raced the 10k in 5 World Championships and 3 Olympics. He had nothing more to gain/prove by running another one. I imagine he only ran it this year because he wanted to one last time, not because Salazar was in favor of it. The worst mistake Rupp could make is clinging to his past too long.

I chose Meade to win in the poll. It was at 2% popularity

So much for the "heat of death".
Well shit, Cragg not running the 10k was the first thing to screw up my letsrun contest picks. But I couldn't be happier that Hassan won!!!!! (I didn't have him in my top 3 picks either, admittedly)
