Tell me exactly what the penalty was. You don't have to play the ball anymore, that ended years ago and he didn't interfere with the receiver, he barely touched him.

you clearly don't watch a lot of football because when one team falls behind 14-0 and it's almost halftime, the play calling changes. a lot. the cowboys were down nearly the entire game so it's not exactly shocking that they were throwing more than normal. There are two penalties. The Cowboy defender shoves Pettigrew and isn't playing on the ball. It's absolutely pass interference. Dez Bryant then runs on the field without a helmet on to argue with the ref, which is unsportsmanlike conduct.

Although I agree, penalties should be reviewable, you might not have gotten the outcome you think you would have with this play. Remember, on a review, all aspects of the play are reviewed. That facemask by the Detroit receiver would have been seen (supposedly) and at best, offsetting penalties. Although it is hard to turn your head if someone is holding your mask.

the defender didn't shove the receiver but nice try with the revisionist history. there was incidental contact but the ball was so poorly thrown it hit the defender in the back. it was a dubious call when it was called but the refs can't change it a minute later.

He shoves him on the right shoulder, clear as day. If you choose to lie that is your deal. It's on the video. He has his hands on downfield prior to that. It isn't incidental at all. Once the ref calls the penalty there is no justification for overturning it. Missed calls or judgement calls are one thing. Overturning the call is something else. There is zero explanation for not flagging Bryant.

You can debate whether the flag should have been called all day. It was ticky tack at best. The official with the best view overturned the call by the original flag thrower. It isnt like there werent numerous flags that were questionable against Dallas throughout the game. You can see others commenting on it earlier in the thread.

No matter what way you slice it, that call didn't determine the game. The Cowboys battling back and playing a full 60 minutes vs Detroit playing not to lose the whole second half determined the game.

I am mentally challenged but I don't think it was pass interference

Here is the video showing the Cowboys defender pushing Pettigrew's right shoulder before the ball gets there. You can absolutely call pass interference for this:

this is a pretty funny post. did you watch the game because the cowboys most certainly didn't play a "full 60 minutes" as they were sleepwalking through the first 28 minutes. they did battle back and they did get some questionable calls go their way but they also got some bad calls against them too (how about the no call on the roughing the kicker?)

The penalty should have held up.

But the Lions had a ton of other chances to score more than 3 points in the second half.

It's better to be lucky than good.

the link doesn't work. the only video i can find online is one posted by some whining detroit fan that begins after the blatant face mask by the detroit receiver. even if you think there was clear PI, at best it would have been offsetting penalties because you clearly cannot grab a face mask and having your face mask being tugged on is going to affect how a defender plays his man.

We don't know what would have happened had they not picked so I can't say it 'determined' the game. But it certainly had an impact. Bryant's non-called penalty is more blatant. Sorry if my link doesn't work. I'm sure it is pretty easy to find the play online. There is definitely contact that isn't incidental and the defender clearly pushes Pettigrew's shoulder.

Yeah, and even if they did pick the flag up, Dez Bryant being an out-of-control maniac on the field without a helmet would give the Lions 15 yards and a 1st down.Didn't they line up/snap the next play too?

Then that is a non-call. Calling a penalty, which occurs, and then overturning it is worse. This still leaves us with obvious unsportsmanlike conduct.
