I would suggest people read "The Betrayal Of The American Dream", however, since we're in this morass. America's middle class has been sold out. This cannot be denied.

Ryan & Kerry's apparent behavior is axiomatic of the bizarre caliber of people who are now in National politics.

My Marathon PB is an anemic 3:26:55, but I did walk two miles owing to leg cramps. The BEST I might have done was 3:11-3:15. This was off of 42MPW over the previous 12 weeks. I would NEVER claim to have even broken 3:10, let alone 3-hours...and it was NOT the Boston Marathon, it was the Clarence DeMar Marathon in NH.

Interesting that Bowles-Simpson was brought up. The only collection of individuals that voted against the report (as an identified group) were the House Republicans on the panel(Paul Ryan, Jeb Hensarling, and Dave Camp). You had a House Democrat, Senate Democrats and Senate Republicans all voting for the committtee's recommendations. If the report got enough votes, there was a requirement of a floor vote.Marathon man would rather play games than get anything done. The easiest thing in the world for a congressmen to do is get a bill through the House if his party's in control. No quaint filibuster/60 votes to get anything done like the Senate. Straight majority vote in the House.

The time Ryan picked is a big part of what makes this much, much more likely to be a lie than a "mis-remembering". If he had said he ran a marathon in forty-five minutes, or an hour seventeen, then he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

If he said he ran 3:42, 3:49, 3:51, etc, then he might be misremembering; maybe those were his goal times or his pace at the half-way or something, and since it wasn't that big a deal to him, he just remembered incorrectly.

If he had said 4:02 or slower, then obviously he's misremembering, because most people lie to make themselves look better.

But Ryan just happened to pick a time just fast enough to be really impressive, but just slow enough to be plausible (and yes, it's very plausible that a good HS athlete who ran recreationally in college could go under three). It's also a time that an awful lot of pretty serious runners have set as a goal. If he had field tested to see which marathon time would have the best political benefits, 2:50-something probably would have come out on top--just fast enough to show impressive commitment, not so fast that it indicates a borderline obsession.

There's a very remote chance he thought he actually ran 2:50-something--but the nature of the time he stated very strongly indicates it was one of those flat-out lies that people tell to make themselves look better than they are.

factcheck.org has outed itself as being agenda-driven, and the many who have swallowed their criticism's of Ryan's speech all checked their logic at the door. Bend the knee!

Also very disconcerting: this is supposed to be the GOP's "numbers guy". As a numbers guy myself, I can tell you all of my PR's from the 55 to the ultramarathon, as well as all the field events. My recollections and those recorded on the official results are identical.

I don't remember, say, my SP PR because I'm incredibly obsessed with it and think about it every day. I remember it because it's a number, and I'm a numbers guy. Similarly, I can tell you the relevant statistics I use in my job, because I'm the numbers guy at work.

Ryan, if elected, is kind of supposed to be the "numbers guy" for the nation. And he can't remember his marathon time.

If it's just the marathon time it doesn't seem like a big deal to me. But he's so consistent about presenting himself as a star athlete-- I do wonder how much of the other stuff is true. Climbing 40 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado seems like quite a feat for an out-of-stater. Did he really do that? If it turns out he's consistently misrepresented his physical achievements. It would become a bigger deal to me. Of course, I would have always voted for an actual donkey before I voted for him.

Please dispense with the hairsplitting and insults. Make your argument and let it stand, if it can. That is the essence of civil discourse.

I'm weary of the Obama wrong-number-of-states BS.

As I remember, he was referring to the number of political entities (a nice neutral term) that held presidential primaries or the equivalent.

Let's count them:

50 states

1 DC

1 Puerto Rico

1 Guam

1 Northern Marianas

1 US Virgin Islands

1 American Samoa

56 Total

Also, along Rojo lines, what's with the attempt to get on the low side of 4 hours by invoking "chip time."

There were no chip times when Ryan did his marathon -- anywhere. ChampionChip didn't get rolling until 1993.

As for the BS about how long it would have taken to have crossed the line, (a) there's no general way to work that out, because start lines vary greatly (the Boilermaker's start line is extremely tight) and (b) before chip timing, the gun time was your time. Period, the end.

I wrote letsrun an email about the chip thing and got a response saying that the note now reads " "which would be high 3:50s in terms of chip time if that existed at the time. An innocent mistake? "

I don't know where that allegedly-revised quote is. On the front page it still says "Well, he probably did break 4:00 with the chip time - so he ran high 3:50s"

Attempts to excuse Ryan are just lame.

The article brings up a good point few if any of us have mentioned. "But you did run marathonS at some point?"

"Yeah, but I can't do it anymore."

He not only states the 2:50something, but implies rather clearly that he ran marathons regularly or at least multiple times. Now it seems that's not the case.

So, the 2:50s. The multiple marathons. The yeah I was pretty fast. The my back is messed up so I only run 10 miles now.

It wasn't just one slip, the entire running section is bizarre.

I've always thought the election ballot should have a "none of the above" option on it. That way, those of us who can't stomach any of the options have a way to say so. And the dude who gets the most votes will have to be a little more careful slinging around words like "mandate," because he'll know how quickly someone will point out that he got 12% of the vote compared to the other candidate's 9%.

I've wondered what Kip Litton could have done to make anyone believe his stories and get the shitstorm to blow over. Tell the truth? Apologies? Invite everyone to witness him break 3 hours? It now seems obvious that the easiest solution would have been to run for political office (preferably as a republican). Why should he change his citizenship back, when he never denounced it. Their is a process to denouncing US citizenship and it is easy to find out who has denounced their citizenship, the government releases such records yearly.What is a foreign exchange student (they exist, but their classification is different from foreign students)? if he was a foreign student, I believe that is what you are trying to say, then his I-20 form would be available in public. The 1-20 form unlike tax returns is easy to get from school archives and immigration authorities, copies are available at the DMV or at the social security office (assuming he applied for a drivers license or a social security card). Wayne Allyn Root is very stupid, and delusional and pathetic. Really, do people just wake up and make up stuff or what? If you make up a story at least try to look at the loopholes. Back to the story. This was not about Biden, this was about Ryan, and his claim to running a marathon is an astonishing time for normal mortals. You do not have to find equivalences or balance on opposite sides of the aisle. BS is just BS wherever it comes from and some time one side has BS and the other does not and vice versa. Change back? You don't get to "change back" your citizenship. You can renounce it, but if you don't renounce it, it's yours forever.
