10/15/2025 - This thread started well before anything was confirmed by Iowa State.
A volunteer moderator deleted several threads on this topic. That's not the way this should work. We believe in free expression and have reinstated them and merged them into this one thread.
As we wrote at the time, "If there is no truth to these rumors, please contact us at letsrun@letsrun.com or give us a call at 844-538-7786 and we will be happy to delete them and issue a statement."
It ends up appearing that the rumors had some teeth to them. Earlier today LetsRun.com co-founder Robert Johnson emailed head coach Jeremy Sudbury to let him know about this thread and asked if there was any truth to it.
At 3:31 pm ET, coach Sudbury emailed me the following:
Hello Robert,
Thank you for reaching out directly.
There were team rule violations. I have worked with our administration, and the involved athletes have been suspended and will not compete the remainder of this season.
Have a nice rest of your weekend.

Praising him in posts like he's some kinda saint. The program is about to get in the most trouble in its history and the head coach is responsible for the athletes so he will be gone if any of this in the slightest is true. Hopefully some closure for everyone today.

Did he not recruit the athlete in question from NJ and coach the non scorers when on the mens team and now still?

To my knowledge Cale has only worked with the women since last August. So no I do not believe he has anything to do with the men, scorers or not.

Thats exactly my point you put up two posts praising Jeremy S as a good man and coach then you delete those two posts and leave it with saying you think 100 percent Kenyans were not involved and where would they get it?
This is potentially the biggest doping scandal ever in NCAA distance running and instead of criticising him and looking at how bad this looks all you did was post what a great guy he is.
I am very worried how serious people on this forum realise this is. At the end of the day I hope this program is used as an example and if WADA get involved rules must be put in place that it won't happen again anywhere.
Let's go back to the Indian getting caught out of NCAA competition last year who is the last athlete to get caught doping in the NCAA doping pool?64 -

Not debunked is the key concept. Of course it's true, since Sudbury was asked to comment on the veracity of the rumors, and he simply said that his team broke the rules.
If they were suspended for other reasons, he would say that the rumors about PEDs are absolutely untrue, but that several athletes were suspended for other rules violations.

Ha- no. Not even a little. They should want the testing to happen. It will be the only way out of this and even then, I am not so sure. What I am is an alum, proud of Coach Bergan's legacy at a school that cares about the sport.
If this comes back even 25% true- you pull the plug and move on. Am I friends and biased towards some of the guys that they have on the squad. Yeah, they are great guys and I would be disappointed in them.

I think it’s very likely Iowa State AD cleans house here. It’s not like Football or Basketball. It’s a non-revenue sport. A national championship Cross-Country team is nice to have, but absolutely not worth all the negative media this scandal brings. Not worth protecting the coaches.
