LAFAYETTE, Louisiana - Long-time assistant and Louisiana alum Tommy Badon has been named the head coach of the Louisiana track and field program, Vice ...
The Assistant Coach will share responsibilities in assisting the Head Track Coach as assigned to ensure academic and athletic success for the program. Expertise with throwers.
I find it annoying that schools hire Track/sprint coaches to coach XC & Track. If you want a coach to be able to recruit and have "decent" programs in both, you need to hire a distance coach. The sprint coaches will not know how or have a desire to recruit xc runners. If you look at the programs that have sprint coaches as the coaches for both, the XC program struggles, and they have the sprinters run XC races. And we know that they HATE running XC.
If you are hired as a coach that is responsible for both, but in an equal effort and don't half ass the XC team.

You mean the same way that distance head coaches overload distance and don’t have a full track team? Many of you can’t see beyond distance events.

You are dead wrong and sound completely ridiculous.

I'm not a distance coach but have been in a director role over XC several times. I always make sure there is a full time distance coach on staff and haven't had any problems. Each time has produced at least one All-American.
The issue is xc and track coaches fighting for power and trying to "one up" each other instead of ditching their egos and working together for the betterment of the team. Some teams we definitely put more money into distance because it made sense for the situation. Other times it has been throws or jumps but doesn't mean you ignore a group all together. Get good coaches that don't have egos and your team will develop in grow in all aspects and events.

The difference is that sprinting is part of a larger sport. Hiring a sprint coach to coach xc is a joke.
