He was clearly pleased with his effort, talked about what he learned, and he will be back. If you told him a year or two ago that he would be in the World Championship Finals, be a top-10 runner, whatever, he would have been thrilled.
It's a stretch for me to really care about Yared when all he seemingly wants is to have fun and be a happy orthodontist in the long run. Like, good for you being mentally sound and all, but I root for the tortured ones and the dumb ones and the aggrieved ones.
Constantly say that these Diamond League pacemakers and flashing lights mean too many modern runners can’t race properly.
Glad people are seeing it now.
You’re talking about an Olympic gold medalist (who owns the OR) and a two time WC silver medalist in the 1500. No one from the past has much better credentials you jagaloon, he knows how to race.
Um, he just lost a runner with a slower PR. This has happened at the ONLY TWO 1500 RACES that counted in 2022 and 2023.
Oooff. That had me screaming at the telly. Unfortunately for Jakob his semifinal cockiness will make that even tougher to swallow. Not enough walk to his talk.
Fantastic run by Josh, to inflict defeat on Jakob…in an identical manner to the way Jake did was some brutal deja vu.
Jakob dismisses the idea of practicing un-paced races, yet in his only un-paced race with serious competition last year he was trashed by a runner with a slower PR. All the 1500s he ran on the track in 2022 were personally paced DL races, and a slow win at European champs. The LetsRun question was smart: "Should you practice racing unpaced events?"
Reposting my amazing post again.
for all your grandstanding about arrogance you sure do jerk yourself off a lot

Nothing there suggests he knows how to race.
I think this is one of the dumbest takes. Maybe Kerr just was stronger today.
To Norwegian media: in the race today I wasnt the best runner. I felt it quite early. When Kerr came I had nothing to answer with/no shot. (.. after questions about comparing with last year) last year I was the best but didn't win, this year I wasn't the best. I have no excuses.
Seems like he has accepted it and takes it with stride. Very calm but disappointed.
It is insane to me that there are people who enjoy watching him lose. “He’s overconfident!” He ran a top 5 all time 1500, set a world best ever over 2 miles, went undefeated and frankly largely unchallenged in *frequent* Diamond League races, had Olympic gold from two years ago, and a razor’s margin from double double at last year’s WCs including a gold in what isn’t even his best event defeating the WR holder in the process. Precisely what is the acceptable level of confidence for him to express to avoid criticism?
It isn't surprising. If he was wanting to join the rarefied ranks of men that completed the 1500/5000 double, this was probably his best year to do it. Unless he hits another new level for Paris, it would be bad to try that double again. And I don't know if he'll want to keep sticking with the 1500 if he keeps getting beaten when the title in up for grabs

You're not wrong.

I apologize for ever doubting Kerr but what was Jakob doing!?
Last year I felt that he was just too complacent in the third lap - this year I think his mistake was made too early and it was impossible to correct. That 3rd lap tonight was 55.3 which is what he needs to do - but after 1.54.0 at 800 it probably needed to be a 54.0 (extremely hard to do). When he can't put a field right on that red line early in the opening 600m of the race, he will just find it hard to compete with guys that have better power than he does.
I don't know if he had a bad day or just had a brain freeze in the first 800 - but he was beaten by the better guy today that ran to the race script perfectly.
because that's easier said than done. And that's why I have always thought hes more vulnerable in the 1500m than in the 5000m. No one has better raw speed in the 5000, while quite a few do in the 1500.
I agree, he's 100% more vulnerable in the 1500. I just thought he'd go out closer to 1:51 like he has in the past. Second 400 slowed to a 58 which essentially sealed the deal for it to be fast. Honestly just shocked
His best bet in a championship setting is to have someone like Cheruiyot who also tends to push the pace share the pacing duties as exemplified in Tokyo . Otherwise he is always at a disadvantage as the "pacemaker" (per his own words) in the race.

I’m not surprised he didn’t win. As they were coming out from the tunnel to the track he had that deer in the headlights look.
Also, when he is waiving to crowd he is totally relaxed. In Eugene and today when got pasted he tightened up. When that pressure occurs the body tightens up and there goes his kick.
