Good! I applaud the SCOTUS decision and the 14th Amendment foundations of the decision. This sets a precedent that will allow us to now enforce equal opportunity and access for all manner of things.
Private clubs and fraternal organizations can now be shuttered or forcibly integrated if they use race as an admissions criteria.
Eliminate the use of redlining for insurance and credit reasons.
Compel states and municipalities to equally distribute resources across all neighborhoods, school districts, health districts, parks, etc.
Force an end to racially obvious gerrymandering. Places like Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana will no longer be permitted to draw congressional districts that minimize or nullify the black vote. Texas and Florida cannot draw districts that disenfranchise Latinos. Voter maps will become more balanced and fair.
It will take some time for lawsuits to move through the courts but, eventually, this decision will force true equality by eliminating any currently legal and grey area means of disenfranchising minorities.
Sorry but no. This won't happen because aa is gone.
You take the point though? The purpose of affirmative action was to allow talented but underprivileged children/adults to level the playing field with admission. B-grade student in the worst high school in the country is more talented than an A-grade student at a private school.
Umm, just being able to read makes you a B student in a lot of city schools.
Again. You understand the point though??
Kids who get average grades but come from crappy schools are more talented than kids who get good grades from good schools.

I have been traveling all day. I have not read a single post in this thread so I might be providing an opinion already addressed.
My first thought when reading that the Supreme Court ended affirmative action is:
"Why wasn't the rich white person's affirmative action (legacy & donor admissions) ended also?"
Because it wasn't legally challenged, and because the progressives who run Harvard don't want to end it.
Thank you for at least admitting you are ignorant up-front though.
I think it should be challenged. These schools are never going to give up their legacy admissions… after all, they’re an old boys club.
I was reading through some of the Justices’ concurrences, and this is what Gorsuch wrote (to me, it sounds like he’s inviting a case on this):
“Harvard could nearly replicate the current racial composition of its student body without resorting to race-based practices, if it gave socioeconomically disadvantaged students just half the advantage it gave recruited athletes and if it eliminated preferences for the children of donors, alumni, and faculty.”

The point of a law is rarely what happens in reality.
It is pretty easy to see that colleges use affirmative action to admit students based on race solely to boost diversity numbers. It's also why you see on many college websites, pictures of minority students show up first.
Highlighting diversity, whether it is fabricated or real diversity, benefits an institution because the average person does not take the time to actually look into the practices of said institution.
I went to a largely white state university. I would say more than 75% of the time I saw someone that was a minority, they were with someone of their own race, or any other classifier you want to use (gay, etc).
This is the issue that people don't want you to know about is self segregation. Scientifically proven.
Joy Reid is almost as racist as Jemele Hill, maybe the biggest race baiter of all time. Everything they look at is through a Racial lens , period, and yet both have managed to Plow their way thru all the systemic racism. Hill blown out the door in a great job for her angry insane racists rants. Their rhetoric is the same every day..it's old and tiresome AND inaccurate.
What Percentage of the Whites who get in Jewish? This comes up in comment sections on Articles about this, Saying Jewish People are way overrepresented among the Whites.
I believe in Meritocracy, If 100% Were Jewish or Asian or anything, if they earned it fine with me. It is an interesting question that i often asked, but neer seems to be answered
Okay. Ashkenazim have an average IQ of around 115--that is, about one standard deviation above the average for the population as a whole.
All else being equal (though when is it ever?), it would be quite surprising if they were accepted at precisely the same rate as other whites.
How does that explain all these so so students who get into Harvard that just happen to be Jewish?
Why doesn't this kind of "inequity" stir people up? God forbid the Princeton croquet team is made up of a bunch of white dudes and all the libs lose their minds
But I must correct a common misconception: No one "deserves" to get in to Harvard. The institution focuses on putting together a well-rounded class--not well-rounded individuals--and may find a national-class clarinetist with 3.8 and 1400 more desirable than a swot with 4.0 and 1600. The latter had some stronger academic credentials but might not otherwise be interesting; are we saying s/he is more "deserving" than the musician?
Now, some state schools have specific, published criteria for admission, and applicants who meet those (and don't have felony records, etc.) might perhaps be legitimately "deserving" of admission. But truly elite colleges don't have such criteria.

So we're discriminating based on income now and who can write the best sob story essay. That's definitely the reason we have academia, right, to reward people for being victims?
Progs/Dems, against Brown vs. Board of education in 1954, against this decision in 2023. A racist part then, a racist party now. This chart says it all. For Harvard admission, if you were "Asian", as defined by demographic data collectors in the 1970s (arbitrary), and in the #1 decile, you were less likely to get admitted to Harvard than an "African American" in the 4th lowest decile. Congrats all you leftists on here and your continued support for racism.

But it's the good kind of racism, because the oh-so educated libs are our moral superiors, and they know what's best for society. I feel we should just defer decision-making to them to produce the equitable Utopia, what could go wrong?

Those who say that excluding military universities from this ruling is some scheme to have more minorities fight and die for our country is wrong.
No one goes to universities like West Point, Naval Academy, or Air Force Academy and NOT plan to go into the military.
excluding military universities from this ruling allowed underprivileged citizens to directly pursue careers in the military they may not have been able to.
