Well yes, but in literally every abuser/drug cheat thread here, there are some people trying to deflect from the perpetrator by blaming the victim(s). Same old, same old. At least in this thread, that is a tiny minority!
You are getting the downvotes, Everydog, because this thread is completely rife with tribalism, groupthink, and mob rule somehow thinking that this is somehow going to assist the goal of making the bad people pay (when it ironically will have the opposite affect). There appears to be a strange inability to understand any semblance of nuance or critical thinking. It's just 100% the Johnsons and administration are the baddies (well, DUH!!!! SO OBVIOUSLY SO!) and everyone else was as pure as driven snow or had no ability whatsoever to defend the actions of the dark force. To me, it smacks of ageism and sexism to think that young female adults are so utterly powerless and incapable to think for themselves. I mean, seriously, if your child is this woefully unprepared and easy prey for wolves in sheep's clothing, hold off on sending them to college. Is that idea just too much for some here to handle? Apparently so! lol. And, here's a free bonus tip... have a sitdown with your soon-to-be collegiate running princess and tell them that if their coach makes advances, they should say "No" and then report it. Wringing your hands and hoping that something bad doesn't happen isn't the best strategy.
Just as a thought exercise, and I am just making this up, but it should be easy to envision (but I don't know).... imagine you're a guy on the cross team and you start dating this girl who is on the girls' team who, let's say, is one year ahead of you in school. Things are going well, and you get engaged, and then married! But, then you find out that it turns out that while you were engaged, she had been knockin' boots with your coach. Now, of course, you hate your coach - he's worse than scum. OF COURSE HE IS - DUH! But, I think it might also be likely that you end up splitting up because you think that maybe... just maybe... your wife should've known better than to 2-time you even though the coach is just so dang charismatic and irresistible to the women. Would it be wrong of you to think that perhaps... some crazy spitballing here... she, too, was in the wrong? Or, can there only be one wrong person doing immoral things (rolls eyes)? If your coach raped her, you'd absolutely be out for blood at that time, correct? But, if it was an affair, you'd dump her and move on.
Many people on this thread are acting like tools if they can't understand these basic concepts. Blinded homer white knighters. Tribalism. Groupthink. Cavemen.
This might not be simply Nassar-esque. It might be a mash-up of Nassar meets Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.
As an aside, espn put out an article. It's already watered-down. What a disappointment.
It’s 9pm in Indiana and Nick is 5 drinks deep. While it is clear to him, in his drunken stupor, that he making sense, it mostly looks to others like a lunatic found a keyboard. Lauren asks him for the 10th time to stop posting on letsrun, but when has she ever been able to tell him anything?
I guarantee the runner in question is still being coached by the Johnsons. And victim or not, we know what that means. The athlete won't part with it; the athlete thinks this is her path to success. That is a hell of a Faustian bargain.

Well, I can almost guarantee he current coaches are going to be banned for life from any sort of major USATF competition, and likewise I don’t see said athlete making it anywhere without some rigorous testing.
HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WPTA21) — A former Huntington University administrator who admitted he fondled a man will not spend any time in jail. Vincent Haupert pleaded guilty to all charges against him Tue…
From 2018. Institutional negligence. You know what isn't surprising? This scumbag has his last name plastered all over the university and his family still has deep connections to the school.
Huntington University is a private, four-year, Christian school of the liberal arts in Indiana offering more than 70 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs.
The second article mentions Vincent Haupert specifically 0 times. One member of a family being a bad person doesn’t disqualify anything good the family did.
Pretty sure this is already losing momentum. 300 plus posts and only 8 the last 24 hours. Guaranteed the school will sweep this under the rug, pay off whoever they need to and we won't here about it in 2 weeks.

A lot happened in a few days. Coaches were suspended. Investigations pending. Lawsuits filed. We could get a big media expose in the next couple weeks. We might not, and maybe we wait awhile for the next big update. The good news is that the information is finally out there and these horrible, horrible people likely won’t be coaching again any time soon. I’ll happily twiddle my thumbs and wait to hear what happens next.
If you think more should be done in the downtime, then I would advise working locally in Northern Indiana. Spread it on Facebook. Get your friends to email people (you guys are probably already doing this). I don’t think local communities react very well to people outside of that community telling them what to do. I may have Southern Indiana roots, but I’m a devil loving city person now. You can certainly get a lot of people like me talking about rapist coaches online, but we can’t really do anything in your state where you live. People on Reddit just go “wow that’s awful” and then click on the next thing.
I think most of the big stuff is over. Huntington has a losing case and will settle outside of court. I trust the lawyers to take them for all they can. I’m surely interested to see if any other stories come out, especially the Nike stuff. Can’t imagine anyone whose ever known me saying that I have “deserved to burn for years.” Big yikes for the Johnsons on that one, as if the abusing children scandal wasn’t enough already. Sincerely cannot express how much I hate them.
Of course, this thread could be continually fueled by trolls who try to downplay assault. That’s been a pretty big driver so far. Reminds everyone that there are people out there who think that this was all okay.
Just my 2 cents. I’m probably gonna take a break from posting here unless “not Nick” comes back around and I feel like making fun of him.
Two Huntington University coaches were placed on administrative leave after two former runners accused them of enabling a culture in which abuse occurred.
I saw above where someone thought I was trying to deflect from the Johnsons. I am not at all! No one has stated more on this thread that Nick's actions throughout this saga are nothing less that abhorrent and sickening, and he deserves all that's coming to him. In what appears to a crowded field of olympic-level morally depraved losers in Huntington, he is far and away the gold standard.
Indianapolis Star newspaper reporter David Woods joins DyeStat editor Doug Binder to discuss the story he broke last week outlining allegations of sexual abuse, forced doping and a cult-like culture within the cross country a...
Excellent! More movements and developments which are critical towards achieving the ends we want! The Dyestat interview was really good. Woods carried himself and conveyed the information very well - so much better than he did on the Fox59 interview (but, of course, he had a lot more time and it was probably a less intimidating platform). There were some holes in the interview as well as possible (relatively minor) obfuscations, and there were questions that were neither asked nor answered. But, all of it could be easily explained, I think. On the whole, I found it to be very credible. So, again, great job there!
As for the article about IHSAA "stripping" the semistate meet from Huntington, that headline is a bit misleading / sensational. Yes, they are moving the meet - which is great (obviously) - but instead of it being done as a punitive action against HU, the commissioner for the IHSAA said that they were moving the meet in order to avoid possible distraction, and he also said that they hope to be back at Huntington next year.
Some of them posted about their team pumpkin carving competition over the weekend. Clearly no one is smart enough there to tell them to stay far, far away from social media right now, and that posting about pumpkin carving competitions won't magically make things better.
I think it's reasonable to assume that the IHSAA folks making decisions want to stay as far away from this scandal as possible and are purposely being vague. This seems like the typical statement that would have been vetted by an attorney.
