Sheltering in place is no fun in congested apartment building with loud and rude tenants living on all sides of you. Our ancestors didn't shelter in place in high rise apartments with constant stomping on the floors above....
People who cannot leave those kinds of situations will literally go insane in short time. And I expect to see an increase in tenant-on-tenant violence.
Dogs don't have a right to exercise, I think the reason is dogs peeing and pooping on the carpet at home isn't that healthy for those in the house.
Why do some people act as if one can't exercise at home? Pushups, burpees, planks, jumping jacks, etc.
We can't be sure yet about how weather and sunlight will affect the virus, despite early claims. It's too soon to know.
Btw, I'm not endorsing our government's measures, just sharing them.

I looked outside my window a couple of times in the last hour and virtually everybody now is wearing a face mask. Don't know where the hell they are getting them from. And there's a policeman just standing at the end of the street, probably hoping to line his pockets by handing out a fine to somebody for breaking the quarantine rules.
Not a chance I'm going out in my running gear and risking it.

Long runs, and high exertion runs are proven to negatively impact one's ability to fight viruses and infections. If people are going to run outside, they should only run easily and short durations (no more than an hour).
Also, runners with already compromised immune systems should NOT run at all.
You do know that after marathons the incidence of respiratory infection is much higher than normal right?

I have friends in Austria. In Austria, you should only leave the house for
- going to work
- buying essential stuff
- going for walks/jogging by yourself/with people of your household is allowed (biking is also fine)
It would indeed be pretty stupid to ban exercising on your own outdoor.
These restrictions make sense to me.
Put on a light backpack and run to the store which is 4 miles away, or is one mile away but you ran four to keep social distance ;)
Helicopters in Spain near Malaga so I can't run outside and only 1 person is allowed in a car they film your license plate. Lucky I have a treadmill but only goes up to 3.20/km so I'll have to sneak 10 10 strides in outside the driveway

I agree. From what I understand if you race at close to PB effort over a long distance, i.e. a marathon, your immune system will be depressed for a few days afterwards. But a half hour easy run should have no effect. It may not be wise to do too many hard interval sessions at the moment. But backing off and just building your base would seem a sensible approach and more beneficial than just sitting at home all day.
P.S. I'm not running at the moment due to Achilles issues and, as I am in Canada, my exercise for the past couple of months has been on the stationary bike watching Netflix. So this represents no change for me.

I live in Belgium. Tomorrow at noon the borders close and people will be confined to home except for essential purposes. So far outdoor exercise will be allowed.
We have friends in Italy and they report needing formal permission from the municipal government to go out to walk the dog.
