Even back in high school, this guy probably wasn't drawn to the football field, he was drawn towards the white and nerdy cross country team.
So because of his life-long identity crisis, he lashes out at white people, because it's easier than being honest with himself about his own identity issues.
You can be sure that whatever black kids he knew growing up didn't think of him as "black black", and let him know about it.
