The only comparison that can be drawn between Joe McCarthy and the outrage over the Dixie Chicks is that both are correct, and neither has gone far enough.

Comparing people getting upset about a threat to national security isn't exactly on the same page as people saying that a bunch of hick white trash criticizing the president on foreign soil is unacceptable.

The main idea (I will spell it out for you) is this, and I think several other people have articulated it better than I: This is America, and anyone can say whatever they want. Only King and USC have a problem with this, and these idiots think someone who states their opinion is "treasonous." Guys, go back to the War of 1812...... jeezus.

But, regardless of your position in society, there are usually consequences when you state a controversial opinion. The vast majority of the time, these consequences have nothing to do with the government.

When you play to a conservative crowd, and you make anti-war comments, you're gonna have to to accept responsibility for your actions/opinions instead of pawning it off on the government, your upbringing, or anything else so many Americans like to blame their problems on.

Hmmmm...and when some people did complain that President Billy Jeff Clinton was a sexist womanizer and potential rapist, the liberal establishment kept their mouths shut or stated that extramarital affairs were just an "accepted" part of presidential life. He was regarded as a friend of women's issues.

It's interesting. Clinton sent troops overseas, bombed aspirin factories, and killed innocent civilians in military campaigns and he was regarded as a humanitarian who was trying to help people.

Bush starts a war on terrorism, frees Afghans from the Taliban (ask Afghan women how they feel about that?), and is attempting to rid the region of a despot who has had 12 years to clean up his act, and he's regarded as a war mongering idiot. Liberals also like to paint him as a foe of women's issues.

I guess it all depends on which way your toast is buttered or what Professor Hippie McBurnout told you in his last lecture.
