Everything but Worlds can be treated as preseason and everyone can look after their immediate short term interest and the sport suffers. We need more than 1 big event a year.

Clearly, something is going on. Why would he screw himself further by competing in a basically meaningless meet when his goals this year are the world title and Jonathan Edwards' WR? Oh, right, he 's supposed to show up and perform for people who know even less about the event than you.

1) What you are saying is not true about our criticisms of the ranking system. We are for a system that promotes the stars having to compete. Our #1 complaint of the ranking system is that it devalues the Olympic Trials (and US championships) which is very consistent with my complaint here.

I'd probably say our #2 complaint is that the ranking system is meaningless to the top stars. They'll qualify for Worlds anyway. (link to ranking article at bottom). But if shoe bonusses started getting tied to the official rankings and they promote head to head that's a good thing.

2) We are totally for athlete rights. We paid $2,000 to ensure athletes who should have been on the Pan Am team were on the Pan Am team. We are consistently in advocating against unfair advantages: doping, blades, and shoes that are not available to all.

Taylor skipped USAs 2 years ago and competed 5 days later in Europe. If he was injured, I would not have a problem with him not competing.

4) I have no idea what John Carlos, Tommie Smith, Wayne Collett, and Vince Matthews have to do with this.

5) The crowds are disappointing but I'd like to know the better cities. Anyone can bid for this. Hopefully, USATF didn't burn too many bridges with Mt. Sac but they probably did.

6) USATF needs to change its rule. Say athletes only get a bye if they show up and put in an honest effort at USAs. If they are injured they get a bye. If it is deemed they fake an injury to not compete then they don't get the bye.

Thank goodness Emma Coburn is running steeple today vs Courtney Frerichs. That is what fans need. If USAs is regarded as a joke by athletes why should fans by tickets?

7) Taylor is free not to compete. He's free to not answer questions about not competing. But if he thought it was totally normal I think he'd answer questions about it.

This is the worst thing you've ever proposed. Give more power to the admin's and talk about not supporting the athlete's rights. All because you and the media can't understand good competition without the recognizable name. The TJ at US Nationals was awesome without Taylor. While Taylor had a good head-to-head battle against his main rival Pichardo in London the week before. So, you got the best of both worlds this year because Taylor didn't take the US nat as important.

What would be the definition of an Honest effort? Does he have to make and compete in the finals to earn his spot? or does he have to jump 16m? It is unfair to group the field events with the Track as a runner could give an honest effort for one race, while would one jump give CT an honest effort? Would you penalize someone like Amos who felt a twinge and stopped in race? or do they have to be on the DL for 2 weeks for it to be a true injury. TOO MUCH CONTROL BY ADMIN"S IMHO!!!

The great thing about US system is we prove it on the Track or Field. And winning the WC 2 years ago counts as proving it on the Track or Field in my book. Admins should not be a part of the selection process. and should not be able to put restrictions on an individual athlete's personal wild card. It is a control thing nothing less and people in power need to be taught they are temporary. We should be advocating for our best to go to WC's and who is better than the Defending Champ, healthy and focused on that ultimate prize?

The media still covered the NBA tournament even without LeBron in it this year. So, why don't they understand the potential of the other US track athletes when the stars aren't there? Plus, there is no down grade in the competition level as there are many via for those coveted 3 other spots. And aren't the top 3 in America still expected to be potential medalists anyways? So, shouldn't they deserve press time? You should be hyping the whole US team not just the elite.

TJ recap; Scott put up a big jump in the first round 58'-2", Claye was within 4" of that jump 4 times. While 3rd Craddock and 4th Benard were only 8" apart with both having big fouls in the late rounds that might have put them in contention for a title. And instead of talking about the great jumping Scott did, who by they way is listed as "Unattached", you spend the space insulting CT. By the way how many US National champs have no sponsor? that is the real story a 2x US champ, ranked #5 in the world and without a sponsor?

As a triple jumper who is nowhere near as good as Christian Taylor, it is very hard on your body. I get injured in meets fairly often and it is very common for triple jumpers to scratch the rest of their jumps if they have qualified for whatever they need to saving themselves for their biggest meet. It is stupid that they made Taylor fly all the way to the meet where he doesn't care about competing. If he has already qualified for Worlds there is no point in risking injury and wearing the body down.

At least one fan got enough video to post most of the meet on youtube. But what I watched merely confirmed my reasons for disinterest. The worlds team will be mostly the best, and a few lucky hopefuls who upset them but have little chance of doing it again at the champs. The results list will do; show me the who, I don't care about the how.

It seems to me that if wejo and LRC cared about the TJ, and other field events, they might have more prominent link to the results of these competitions. They might be somewhere, but it is not obvious where.
