You hit the nail on the head. It was not his isolated performance today, but it was the combination of his two performances in such a short period of time.

No one suspects Africans are doping based on race but rather based on the low amount of testing in their countries and the high number of Africans that have been caught over the last few years. If you had Russian distance runners running fast everyone would also say that they are doping. Not everything is about race. Get over it.

Hunter only legit pro inside TINMAN. Almost all the others got in to USATF on descending order list.

Jakob runs a good 5k and indeed has an excellent racing sense as we saw in the Euro Champs last year, but he's still got a stack of Ethiopians to contend with. Barega has the raw talent, Kejelcha and our lad Hagos have the championship experience. That does not even consider the reigning world champ!

Prediction: Coach Alberto will help Kejelcha time his peak properly, there's your World Champ.

Jakob worked really hard for that 13 mins, and I mean hard. He can't keep up with the Ethiopians, not even close.

But Chelimo should be worried, because now he has someone else to deal with who can run 13 mins or faster. Chelimo might not medal, or Ches.

Yeah, I saw the race on youtube. And in that last 400m, he was working very, very hard. You do realize that Ethiopian recently raced a 10000m for the trials right?

I agree it looked like he could of gone to another gear but didn’t.

I was waiting for him to sprint the last 100 meters. Maybe he hides pain well and was flat out that last straight but it sure didn’t look like it.

The 5k will certainly be his best event and he will eventually break 12:50 within a few years. I get the feeling he’s just feelin out running at this level and maybe even holding back a little.

Or is he hiding something? He has been looking so smooth lately and finishing second with extremely fast times without a struggle. I think he should have won the last two races. Is he on something? Usually, when EAs finishes a race and looks so fresh, they get called out of doping and therefore not feeling a thing. Could this be the same case with JI?

Hagos is better than him right now and did that 53 with a 26:48 in his legs from three days ago. Remarkable. Don't forget that he also ran 12:45 last year and somewhere around 12:46-48 in Paris in 2012, seven years ago. When you are less tired in the last lap, you have the better kick, and it's not always about who is the better 1500m man.

For Jakob, this was foreseen last year when he ran to the line at World Junior--the winner, Stanley Waithaka ran 13:05 today behind Cheserek at Heusden-Zolder--in 13:17-13:20, because the finish in that race was of such high quality that it indicated sub 13 ability. This race was in fact very easy for Jakob until the last 400m, which shows that he can go substantially faster. He lost narrowly to a 12:45 guy who just outkicked Barega and Kejelcha by less than this.

I would be surprised if Jakob does not go sub 12:50 in the next year. This is his last shot at World junior records this year, because he turns 20 in September next year, 19 this September, but he has proven to be a medal threat at 1500m and 5000m this year and that is shocking at this age where we know that the birth records are legitimate in Norway, not a 50% rate as documented in East Africa.

That Ethiopian won the 10k 3 days ago. You are saying there is not enough time to recover for someone of this caliber dropping down to a 5000? How did Farah win the 5000/10000 multiple times? So last year when Jakob was running both the 1500 and 5000 in the WJs he got all kinds of hate for not winning both, now you're saying poor Hagos was not all there?

Seriously? Hagos destroyed Kejelcha and Barega. Think about that and think about this race.

Jakob has learned the art of running relaxed and fast, something that many runners never figure out over an entire career. Straining doesn't lead to running faster, it just makes you work harder and makes it look like you are running harder. Wejo also learned this art if you read his old why I sucked in college post. Just because Jakob doesn't look like he is running all out doesn't mean he isn't.

Sorry to be a cynical jerk but just I find this extremely hard to believe. It would be easier if there was just Jakob. Then you have one extreme outlier that maybe hit the genetic jackpot- although I also dont see any evidence that the parents have any athletic ability( could be wrong about that and that is obviously not a totally determining factor). There are 3 people from one family out of a nation of 5 million that doesnt even take track very seriously and they are basically better than all of Europe and Americas put together(population of approx 1.1 billion)? Its just hard to credit.

I know the power of belief is awesome and Im sure the dad is a genius but as hopefully most people know there isnt any secret training or workouts that can magically transform you or that havent been tried 1000 times already. Obviously you can match the training up to the athlete over time for better results but that still doesnt remotely explain this.

If you just go off of U.S. 1500 lists(and yes I know we supposedly waste tons of talent, the NCAA is a terrible system, were lazy/fat losers that dont train hard enough/smart enough/long enough etc etc etc but we also have 500,000 boys competing in high school track every year which is 1/10th the Norwegian population) you have

I dont feel like listing all of them look it up if you like. Also there are 123 US people faster than the next fastest Norwegian shout out to Lars-Martin Kaupang.

I know a few of the others are not born in US and the point of listing the first two is that this one family has 2 brothers that are faster than anyone ever born in US and anyone in all of Europe in history outside of Cacho,Baala,Cram and Coe and there is another brother 5 meters behind those two.

Again I dont like posting crap about this(then why do it lol?) but its just tricky to believe I just mostly go by common sense- 3 brothers from a non running country faster than Steve Scott? 2 brothers who are also possibly/probably get even faster than Centro and Webb(and virtually everyone else)?

So now starting to restate a bit but these are not reasons imo that they are vastly superior:

Superior Training(their training is obv very very good but nothing that 1000s of people havent done before)

Superior Work Ethic(see above)

Superior Belief/Mental Ability/Pain tolerance(see above)

Family all working together toward one common goal etc( no different than any good team which there are hundreds of)

I dont even know if a drug or asthma medication can account for this? Genetic therapy? Also seems far-fetched lol- obv that will be coming(or be here) but not yet? and seems a little advanced for what they are.

Anyway enough nonsense blabber I have to go cut the grass hopefully they are 100 percent legitimate but it just seems very fishy to me.

Before this race, you most likely would have put Kimeli (who ran a 12:57 last month) ahead of Jakob. Yet there it was, Jakob absolutely destroyed Kimeli. Bekele? Lol. No.

You can put whoever you want ahead of Jakob but in reality it looks like no one besides Hagos ends up ahead of Jakob.

Is this the only 5k you've seen this year? Jakob isn't beating Yomif or Barega. He ran a great race but don't get carried away.

Are you really this stupid? Hagos ran 26:48 only a few days ago and still managed to hold off a 3:30 man in a slow race. Is Jakob an amazing talent? Of course. Is he going to easily win the 5k at Worlds? No chance in hell. He will be lucky to medal.

You missed a huge one, all 3 of them have been training like professionals since the age of 8. What American family has been doing that? The closest is Rupp with Salazar and he started much later.
