not sure what your point is, but caltech has race blind admissions - always stunning to see what that student body looks like.

More evidence that white students are taking up spots that should go to better qualified Asians at elite universities. Imagine how many Asians would be at Caltech if not for the backdoor channels open to rich white students. Again, shocking that with so much advantage and privilege white students are vastly outnumbered by Asians.

Almost all whites in the US came after the civil war. Almost all blacks have ancestors who were slave owners. The all white group died out and the black group remains. The land and the money ended up with the Government but it would be nice if the decendants of slave owners were forced to contribute.

Back to the point. If highly selective colleges wanted to fulfill their misssion to attract the best and brightest, they would stop discriminating based on race. Why do we want to continue this terrible legacy?

Agreed! Hence it is terrible that superior Asian candidates are passed over for inferior white candidates. Good for Caltech and UC Berkeley for showing not going down this road.

Next, something needs to be done about the fact that inferior male candidates are favored over women at most highly selective colleges.

OP, if you find a black person on an Ivy League campus with an ACT score of 33, it upsets you. Why does not it upset you that Donald Trump and his idiot kids were accepted at Ivy League schools? Why does not it upset you that Charles Kushner basically attached a one million bribery check to get his idiot son, Jared Kushner into an Ivy League school? OP, you seem to be of the belief if colleges/universities solely accepted students based on SAT score, you are under the incorrect belief that white Gentile males would represent 49% of Ivy League enrollment based on pure meritocracy.

My daughter had close to a perfect score in her SAT’s, 3rd I’m her class, competed in a sport, played lead roles in the theater, in the school choir, won three separate (one of which on the national level) writing contests, and applied early decision and still did not get into Brown.

What she had going against her was she was not a legacy, she was not an international student, and she was white. In the end I was disappointed for her but she felt that if those were the reasons for getting into that school then she did not want to get there anyway.

I understand the imbalance over the years but I’m not sure why someone in high school has to pay for past injustices.

1. Lots of kids have near perfect scores on their SATS especially if you are applying to an IVY - not impressed.

2. 3rd in her class. How big was her class? 3rd of 28. How good is her school. Round the way public school Not impressed without context.

3. Compete in a sport. Lots of kids compete in a sport. Was she one of the best in the state? Context or not impressed.

4. 3 writing contests. This might be impressive, but would need details to say.

5. Applied ED. So do a lot of very strong candidates including lots of types who do not need FA.

In conclusion, though you imagine your kid did not get in because she was white, that's just your hypothesis. Maybe her recs were generic. Maybe her essay was poorly written. Maybe she did not make the most of the many advantages given to her in life. Who knows? Sorry she did not get in, but hope she does not go through life thinking it was because she was white.

The Affirmative Action was a De-Facto Reparation given to Blacks who had ancestors who were NOT allowed to learn from 1619-1863 (1865) in Texas. in 1954 Brown VS Board of Education said Separate is NOT equal, so the schools were integrated assuring everyone had the same teaching and facilities (Which does not usually work in practice as many Black Neighborhoods do not have the tax base to build the best facilities and recruit quality teachers)

Affirmative Action started by JFK and brought into law by LBJ was intended for BLACKS ONLY because of historical injustices their ancestors lived with.

It is wrong for any other group to get Affirmative Action in the USA That Asians, Japanese, Korean and Chinese have to score higher than anyone else is just wrong and immoral, I guess the rational is because ON AVERAGE Asians have higher IQ's

If there were A TRUE MERITOCRACY there would still be individuals who excelled in spite of the group they are part of not doing so well, Since this is a running site and we know in the Steeple Kenyans dominate, but still you will always have the exceptions like Evan Jager who excel despite being part of a group that does not do well.

A straight/true meritocracy is the best way to go, but that will inevitably lead to some groups being over represented and others being underrepresented in different fields and it opens up the politically incorrect truth, people ARE NOT Carbon Copies they are unique with different skills and abilities, MOST Politicians believe in the famous saying Diversity is our greatest strength (Several Candidates said this at the Democratic Debates and NOT ONCE was it refuted) but that is not necessarily true, let me give you a running example, Lets say a college 4 x 400 relay has 4 runners all Black who run the 400 in 45, if 3 of the members are taken off the team to improve the teams diversity with a White, an Asian and a Eskimo, if those 3 all run 48 it will hurt the team, if all 3 run 43 it will help the team, it is a math NOT race problem that determines the fastest team.

Let's get rid of all of the affirmative action in afmissions then. Great, all Asians if they are the smartest. No blacks or hispanics and fewer white males. If that is what the mix is based on merit, that is the moral thing to do.

The numbers woukd be higher than that according to the study.
