I'm not sure why she didn't scratch the 5K, and call it a great day at that point. As far as the interview: Arrogant? No, not arrogant in the least. Funny? Yes, funny for that first sentence b/c it's obviously a "wait, that first part sounded weird moment." That follow-up about "pretty low in that department (or whatever)", is a bit too self-deprecating and compliment-angling for me.
As far as her looks: She's objectively cute. She's shorter than average and has a rounder face so she definitely looks younger than other fast female college runners. Come to think of it, she actually looks more like a high school runner to me. I would not guess she's what? 23? 24? But she's not unattractive.
I'm happy for her. She's a gritty runner and seems down-to-earth. She won the race and a national title in a PR time in hot weather, answered a bunch of questions pretty well while fighting off heatstroke, and then doubled back in the 5000 a little over an hour later, right? Good on her.
Was it the funniest comment I've ever heard? Of course not. But it's got a little more personality than most of the interviews had. I'd never looked at her IG until today, but she definitely has some funnier captions, especially compared to most distance runners.
Either way, good for Allie. She's got a good personality and races well. I'm excited to see what she does going forward.
Her face makes her look a LOT YOUNGER than she is, looks like a 10-12 year old little kid, Guaranteed she gets carded when she buys beer, and even after she shows her ID the cashier is thinking is this ID real? NCAA titles 3 years in a row and maybe 4 next year is impressive, the heat slowed the times A LOT, she beat New Mexico's Cohen who has run 9:29 and Distance runners rarely run fast times in College.
She is #12 in the US in 5k. #7 in the US in 10k. #1 in the US in the Steeple (and number #15 in the World).

If its true that USA can take 4 runners in the steeple, then I she has a good shot of making the team behind Frerichs, Quigley, and Coburn. Who would be next on that list, Higginson? I think Higginson ran 9:2x a few years ago. Not sure if AllieO can go sub- 9:30 in a fast pro race? At least not yet?
However, I think AllieO has only one 10K thus far and was the NCAA leader in the 10K prior to nationals. I suspect her ceiling is much higher in the 10K and marathon relative to the steeple when thinking beyond 2020.

Also running 8:37 or whatever, in a championship full of athletes running world leading and competitive times, shows how weak that event is. She would hardly be on the same side of the track as a decent athlete.
9:37 in those conditions had to be worth something much faster. It was 98 degrees and the track surface was 115. I imagine it's probably worth around the collegiate record which is 9:25 by Frerichs. Look for Allie to contend for that 4th spot at USA's this year (Coburn gets a bye as defending world champ).
