More important than Millrose results, if anyone connected to Kemoy or his group can post updates on his condition please do

I saw this live on NBC and it was horrific. So glad to hear Kemoy seems to be ok and out of the woods--but that he was feeling unwell for a few days prior is worrying....

I lost my good friend Danny Kassap in 2011 ( he was a 2:14 marathoner, and winner of the Toronto marathon) . He had his first bout of AF, likely due to a genetically enlarged heart at age 27. And despite, quite literally, almost dying during the Berlin marathon while running in 9th place (he collapsed and was pronounced dead for 15 minutes while on the course), he was resurrected and recovered. He started to run again 6 months later. I was in the doctor's office with him when the cardiologist strongly suggested he wear a pacemaker for the rest of his life. But Danny refused, and took the chance to run and train again. Over the next year, he was slowly getting back into shape. Not where he was, but back in 31 minute 10k shape. Then one day, after he raced a local race in the morning, he wasn't feeling well all day. He went out for dinner with some friends, and said to them that sometimes his heart would "flutter". Then, that night, he went to bed instead of seeing the doctor after feeling "off". He had a cardiac arrest, and would die before the ambulance arrived. He had just turned 29 years old....All of us who ran so many miles with him still miss him dearly.

If any runner is diagnosed with AF or an enlarged heart (and many will have this--this is indeed a genetic advantage), please don't ignore it. Trust me, it can be devastating. I miss Danny all the time, and run by his grave weekly to remember him. I wish he chose the pacemaker. He would be 37 now.

Just a couple observations from someone who was right there where he went down. I saw him go off the track and sort of crouch down. I didn’t think much of it because he was the rabbit and figured he was sick and tripped over the rail. But when a woman checked his pulse and started mouth to mouth, you knew something serious was up. I can’t fault the armory for not stopping the 3000 because I doubt the officials even knew what was going on and he was off the track. But when they tried to run the girls mile , that was inexcusable. To their credit , they pulled the girls off but then tried to continue the shot put with him lying there 20 minutes away . They only stopped that because the crowd started screaming and booing.

It didn’t seem like to me they had a defibrillator there and they only put one on him after the paramedics arrived. I can’t be certain because there was a crowd standing around him but it looked like that.

Last was the tone deaf announcement made by Armory as they wheeled him out .” Let’s give him a nice round of applause as he leaves the arena.” Uh, Ian this isn’t some 7 grader who sprained his ankle, they’ve been doing cpr on this guy for 15 minutes and he is absolutely lifeless, a strong possibility of dead, show a little a sensitivity.

Where was the emergency action plan? Was it activated? Who was in charge? Who was the decision makers? Why was the race not stopped?

Why were the spectators the ones to start CPR? Who called 911? Where was the operational AED? How many EMT’s were working the meet?

You're an idiot. When something as unexpected as that happens, people aren't going to realize immediately what is wrong. What is important is that he is still alive.

After watching the video and working in emergency medicine for many years, kudos to those at the site who saved this man's life. I hope he has a full recovery.

It’s not unexpected! You have to plan for it.

Every little league sport in NYC legally has to have a AED with them at all games. Ever PSAL team has to travel with an AED with them to all event and practices.

If little leagues and high schools can plan for cardiac arrest then a major athlete complex should be able to as well. That is the point of an emergency action or a medical emergency plan.

What you are right about is that the most important thing is that he survives. He isn’t out of the woods yet but we are all praying for him.

He went down, looked like he got tangled up and the tripped, kind of chaotic, shot putters doing their thing.

No one was there to check him out immediately. After a minute or two, someone came over, seemed to be assessing him, leaning over him, almost seemed to be talking to him or seeing if he was breathing.

Then all hell broke loose, an EMT onsite came over, realized the gravity of the situation, and started all out cpr. She is trying to get this guy back to life while the race is still going.

Other medical personal start running out to the track. Looked like some docs with emergency care experience were on site, they joined the care team.

The race continues. Lapping around while the emt is still pumping away. The crowd is silent and framed out. F*****ing race continues and looks like he is plain cold dead with emt and random docs still pumping away.

After what seems ages full emergency response team shows up. NBC tried to run a 400 meter race but the crowd boos and shakes them and anyway there’s about a dozen NYPD and NYFD guys in lanes 1 - 5 so nbc stands down.

Clearly NHRR and millrose have no idea what to do in this situation. There was a not insignificant delay in response to the down runner, he kind of laid there a while before anyone bothered to check him out and then we’re all watching to see if anyone will take action.

If true they didn’t have the necessary equipment nor direct radio contact with EMS, then they failed.

The Armory is in New York, not Boston.

Watch the video bro, this is why eyewitness testimony is weak evidence. A meet official was over to him within 5 seconds to check on him.

You mean most likely a non medical trained official or volunteers. The one dude was playing with the starting blocks sensors.

Could be, not going to argue about that detail. Seemed like an agonizingly long time before that EMT was there to assess and start CPR. The guy sitting next to me kept yelling “he’s not breathing, he’s not breathing” as the rest of us we’re kind of in shock, trying to figure out if this runner was on the way out....

We’re all thinking, will someone do something, please...

It was tv that wanted the shot to go on

With the hs girls mile on hold and them live on the air they wanted something to fill th he time so tv was saying go to the last throws of the shot.

A brief update: Sources close to Campbell told LetsRun.com that Campbell has been sedated and likely will remain that way for a few days as his condition is monitored. An initial scan checking for damage to his brain found no serious issues.

Obviously a very, very serious situation but people are hoping for the best.

If anyone saw this first-hand please feel free to email me. wejo@letsrun.com Everyone I spoke to at the meet (not people associated with the meet) were full of praise for how quickly people acted. Now I guess there is a possibility they didn't observe the situation right away but just talking to people I didn't hear complaints. Yes I heard people raise their voices when it looked like the shot put might continue but all-in-all if Kemoy survives this it is because of the quick medical attention he received.

Once again if you were there feel free to email me. Watching the video it looks like someone gestures to get him help almost immediately and people are around him. 2 minutes later you can see him being turned over.

I would not expect a medical team or an AED to be inside the track but surrounding it yes. And doctors out there tell me, but aren't chest compressions often done before AED in a lot of situations?
