Did you get a hotel in the city or a suburb? I know they will all jack up their prices that weekend but there must be cheaper options outside the city.

I don't think I've spend more than about $125-$150 per night ever in my life.

$750/night is only like the Lennox or Mandarin or other high end finish line hotel on marathon weekend. Most of the others are like $400/night. Worth it? Maybe.

Stay in a suburb near the T to save money.

Stay near Hopkington to save the most money, but the most hassle getting back after the race.

This is a great survey! I started a similar question a few years ago and the responses followed a double bell curve with most runners spending between $500-$750 and $2,500-$3,500.

With 26 responses so far, we have a wider range and fewer similar responses. There's a cluster of 7 between $300-$500, 4 between $1,600-$2,200, 4 between $5,000-$6,100 (me at $6,100), and one at $12,000.

We also had 4 runners post that they spent $200 or less.

I'm amazed at how little some posters claim to spend on race registration and travel related expenses.

Travel to races, hotels, meals, rental car/taxis: $$6000

Entry fees: $450

Misc crap like socks, gels, bars: $300

Happy ending massage after 2 races: $240

2x4% = $500
