Except for LRC.
Somehow I really don't think Jared Ward spends much time, if any, checking out LRC. He's probably pretty busy with teaching and research plus his own training.

I still like CD. Really, this was his first healthy year in a long time. If he can put together another healthy year, he's definitely going sub 2:10.
When are people going to stop talking a out what CD could do if he would stay healthy? Part of talent is being strong enough to train uninterrupted for years on end. CD aint got that piece and his puzzle will never be complete.

While I agree in premise about staying injury free...Chris' long nagging Achilles flare ups all stem from stepping off a curb awkwardly when walking in downtown Naperville a few years back. Just bad luck. So yes, I believe if he can continue to ramp up the mileage and his ankle/ achilles hold up, he can go low and hit elite time.

Hi Chris! Most of us here are fans, but gotta admit that you likely peaked in college. Can’t hammer the way you did at NV and Stanford and hope to have more meat on that bone post college.

1) I liked Ward's post.
2) The US likely will send a strong team to Rio.
3) Despite 1 and 2, that wasn't a great showing for the US in NYC. The reality is Ward almost pulled out of the race six weeks before it took place so the fact that he was still top American isn't a good sign at all for anyone not named Jared Ward.
It's great for Ward as it shows he's on the comeback trail from a tough 2 years. But the reality is he was far from his top shape. The facts show that he finished more than 6 minutes behind the winner when in Rio he was less than 3 minutes behind.
You forgot
4) At least no American men in this race will ever be accused of doping. They too slow.

Too much for you to spell Chris Derrick, eh? Now it's, hey let's be cool and call him CD.

Rio was 2 years ago, Einstein.
Also: 2) The US will likely send a strong team of former East Africans to (lets go with) the next Olympics.
...yes Rodgers ran NYC in: 2:10:10; 2:11:28; 2:11:42; 2:12:12; 2:13:20; 2:15:31 between 1976 and 1985 ... without vf4%
Ward has run 8 marathons with a 2:11:30 best in the Olympics in the heat. That's a fine enough race, and something to be proud of.
However, if he hasn't run sub 2:10 after 8 marathons, it seems pretty unlikely that he ever will.
The fact is, Rupp is the only American marathoner of note since Meb retired, and is likely to remain that way past the 2020 Olympics.

Yeah crashing your bike, knocking yourself out and getting a concussion with a week+ off of running is a healthy year

Wrong! It means he’s primed for a breakthrough! Sub 2:10!!
“We have guys closer than the clock has said” reminds me of all the failed premeds in undergrad who were adamant about being way smarter than their GPAs indicated.
Well yeah, once I've added up all the things you could have done and all the things you intend to do, you’re a rock star. But then so is everyone when viewed through that lens.

Jared's last line - I don't know who will be on that team, but when we send 3 guys to Tokyo they are going to be good.
Yes, they will be GOOD, but not very good and not great.

Maybe I'm old school, but I think he should have been a little less Oprah and little more Coach Mora:

Not sure what’s more embarrassing, the state of US men’s marathoning ex Rupp or the rambly post that had a Maury Povich/British writing quality to it. NOP And Reebok elite the only groups with any social media dignity it would appear.
I think Ward's optimism has been part of what has helped him have such a highly successful life in and out of running. You can trash it all you want. But he will believe it and live it and continue to produce results in his life like he did at Rio. In high school, no one would have predicted Ward's success in the NCAA. In the NCAA, no one would have predicted Ward's success in the Olympics. He continues to outperform expectations because of his attitude. When his running days are over he will continue to do that in other ways.
So you can disagree with his sentiment, but it won't affect him or the runners he is talking about who have that kind of focus and attitude.
I didn’t see one mention of LRC, Trolls, or shutting it
