Definitely, UNM just has the recent history in recruiting foreigners as their path to success. There are certainly many others, as well. Those coaches are saying, in essence, "I can't achieve the level of success I expect with the US athletes I could attract and develop at this school." I'm not sure their priorities are in order and it just looks cheap. Yes, it's allowed within the rules and I think there should be a higher level of responsibility and accountability.

What exact duty or obligation is it that these coaches are failing to uphold. Their job is not to develop distance running talent in the US. It's not to build future Olympians. It's to build a successful, competitive team. It's to win. That's it. How is UNM, Oregon, or Alabama failing at that? Answer: they aren't. You just don't like how they are doing it, but make no mistake there is not obligation or requirement to recruit only American students. Hell, universities in the US in general don't only actively recruit Americans to just be students, so why would we expect the same from athletic programs associated with universities. You don't get a lower bar set for a scholarship solely because of where you are born. That's what's universally understood and accepted about sport: he who is fastest, strongest succeeds; period. It's how everyone can relate to it and honestly unifies everyone globally. Do you feel the same that the National Football League, National Basketball League, National Hockey League have international players? After all National is in the name of the organization, so it's our league? Shouldn't we want them to sign US born players only?
It's a ridiculous argument, right? It's just as ridiculous when you make it for the NCAA.
How many of you can achieve such outstanding success while training day in, day out in the brutal heat and humidity of the Deep South? The Kenyan runners are from the highlands where temperatures are always comfortable, in the 40-70 degree range, so training in Alabama (or North Carolina or Arkansas or whatever Southern state they're at) is a tough transition.
And Gilbert Kigen of Alabama still won 4th at the NCAA D1 XC Nationals last year.

Wow, that's really strange. It's like two separate teams. But I really don't think this is a race thing, the Kenyans are just on a different level.
Here are the worst offenders in terms of foreign representation:
UNM and University of Oregon women's teams - Top 5 all foreign
UTEP men's and women's teams - have 5 on the roster, but have only had 3-4 in their top 5 thus far.
Next level:
Alabama, NAU and Portland's men's teams - 3 of top 5 foreign (although Alabama has a few more that haven't been scoring)
Iowa State men, Boise State men and women, University of Oregon men, and Arkansas Women - 2 of top 5 foreign
Best
Wisconsin men, Colorado Schools (CU, CSU, Air Force), Stanford women, BYU women and Michigan Women - 0 foreign athletes
Honorable Mention:
Stanford Men and BYU men - each have 1 Canadian born runner that grew up and attended high school in the US.
These foreigners go on to join the World Class Athlete Program and help us win more Olympic medals. They push our athletes to work harder. As a result, American elite distance running is the one of the very best in the developed world. It's a win-win situation. Got a problem with that, or is that wall building rhetoric still on your mind?

I used the results from pre-nats to determine who their top runners were. Hoare and McDonald did not run at Pre-Nats.

Well, yes. Actually, not ban just reserve the athletic scholarships, or a really high % of them, for US runners. Let foreign countries fund their athletes development in our system. If Eluid Kipchoge and Haile Gebrselassie want to put up the money for a flood of b- and c-level athletes from their countries into ACC, Big 12, and SEC teams, that's well and good.
There are tow separate teams - the shirts against the skins. Shirts are winning, which just proves for once and for all, running shirtless is for slow douches.
