World Champion Emma Coburn Expresses Doubt that Beatrice Chepkoech's World Record in Steeple is Clean

I was suspicious. I bet Wejo was suspicious. How could you not be suspicious? Jebet was busted. If her time is thrown out the record would be about 8:58. Then someone runs 8:44 and is looks fresh as a daisy?

I like that Emma doesn’t hide her thoughts. I am fed up with PC garbage.

I don't question great performances. I do question huge jumps in performance.

Emma likely had suspicions about Ruth Jebet coming out of nowhere so she is suspicious of women who burst onto the steeple scene but as some have pointed out Beatrice has run 8:28 for 3k. She's a very good flat runner.

And I've never really bought the idea that people dope up for one race.

This is a classic runner move. “Everyone who is faster than me is doping, but when I win a world championship it should not be suspicious at all”. Same thing with when Shalane Flanagan threw a hissy fit when Jordan Hasay and Galen Rupp ran fast at Chicago, but then somehow won nyc over Mary keitany. Coburn and her are just as suspicious with their results. How big of an ego do you have to have to think someone can’t just beat you on a given day?

For the doping apologists/deniers here, you might want to ask yourselves how does a clean elite athlete beat an athlete of equivalent natural ability who is doped? Ben Johnson doped ran 9.79 for the 100m; compelled to run clean he was unable to beat 10.1 and was typically far slower than that. So he doped again - and got busted again. (A bit like Gatlin, you might say). Winning margins are now measured in 100th's if not 1000th's of seconds. As Johnson showed, you are simply not in the running (scuse the pun) if you choose to run clean. Of course the differences between doped and clean in distance events will easily translate to much greater margins - the length of the home straight wouldn't be out of the question over 5k or 10k. If you could run close to 13min for 5k clean what do you think you could run doped? 12.45? That's a mere 2% improvement. Doping can give you much bigger gains that that - as Johnson showed. None of your favourite runners could beat a doped version of themselves if they were clean - or even get close. So why would they choose to accept losing to doped rivals?

Just conjecture. Innocent until proven guilty. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the sport to find the cheaters and thus uphold fair competition.

Doping is a red herring with their results. How do you think Shalane NYC win and Emma WC happened? Kenyans suspiciously "slow" for the given day.....

You're only seeing what you want to see, they're not hating on Coburn they're just pointing out the following:

Chepkoech is a 8:28 flat runner.

She's relatively tall with long legs.

She has hurdling technique.

She hardly has to break stride to get over the low steeples.

Of course, we don't know if she doped to get that flat 8:28 and 8:44 steeple, but the above seems to go some of the way as a reasonable explanation.

When we get an as good/even faster flat runner, who's taller and has even better hurdling technique to get over those low steeples then the record will get even lower.
