I’m sure many of you have been asked how did you get started in running. The pro athletes, especially, have to answer that question pretty much every time they give a talk or do a Q&A. This summer, Matt, Eric, Kellyn, Jordan and I were speaking to a group of high school runners from Corona Del Sol HS out of Phoenix. We started with some introductions and it was all the normal stuff. Matt and I started out playing soccer (and other sports) and then switched to running in high school. Kellyn was a gymnast before switching over. Eric started running on a youth team when he was in middle school. Nothing too earth-shattering. Hopefully the kids weren’t falling asleep. Then Jordan steps up and tells the story about how he got into running. None of us had ever heard him tell it before…and it blew our minds!
With the California International Marathon coming up this Sunday, where he is one of the pre-race favorites, we interviewed Jordan and had him share his story with everyone. Enjoy!
*Jordan is on schedule to become a U.S. citizen next fall. His 2:12:22 from this year’s Grandma’s Marathon would make him the 7th fastest American of 2014.

None.
Yes, meldonium is not EPO, but neither is L cartinine or thyroid medication.
I'd venture to say the pro athletes who throw Rupp and NOP the most shade are hypocrites because they're own group are just as nefarious. Like Grouchy Goucher, Desi is a complete hypocrite. At least Goucher was a top tier talent.

Ritz himself specifically has been accused of exceeding the allowable intravenous limits for taking L-Carnitine.
Hanson's is not associated with Meldonium.
Those are not the same circumstances. This is not hypocritical. You're trying to play 6 degrees of separation vs. specific accusations against an athlete and a program under investigation.

Its hard to discern whether Jordan remained with NAZ once Josh took over representing the whole group, but Jordan Chipangama landed with Team Run Flagstaff, Under Armour and Steven Haas once he left NAZ.
Same thing happened at the rock and roll SD race that same year. Just racking up the checks.

Ben Rosario has coached an athlete that is now serving a drug suspension. Alberto Salazar has no athletes that are serving a drug suspension. That means that currently there is more of a cloud around Ben and NAZ than there is around Alberto and NOP.

Cox was one of 50(?) guys tested at the 2000 track trials for Vo2 Max and lactate threshold to join the Fila Discovery program. He was one of 5 or 6 guys that tested well enough and was asked to join the program. He got to train full time and ran big miles before running 2:13 at Chicago that fall.
Gabrielle Rosa gave the training program to the US coaches at the camp, Greg McMillan was the US coach. I know that Cox liked Gabrielle but he represented himself his whole career (he would not allow Federico to negotiate any deals for him).

I wasn't sure of them being run out of cycling either, but even back then there were suspicions of them. People just knew they were from the cycling world and the cycling world was more suspicious than the running world. I'd love to see an article saying they were run out for EPO use because if that's the case I hadn't seen it anywhere.
A good friend of mine, Paul Stoneham, was in the same Rosa FILA group prior to training with me in Flagstaff. They Rosas had success internationally and announced this big program to bring it Americans and I guess they tested Americans for VO2 max and picked their group. Paul's V02 max is legendary. Tons of people wanted to be in the group.
The joke was he was going to get doped by the Italians. Paul went to Italy to train at least once. Everything was on the up and up that he saw. I believe he would have been the first to say something if it wasn't.
The point is not whether the Fila program was legit or not.
The point is that many people are critical of athletes that go to NOP based on their reputation.
People like Josh Cox chose to be part of the Fila program because of the money and support behind it. He knew the Rosas reputation but also knew that he wasn't going to be pressured into doing anything he didn't want to do.
This is exactly the same motivation behind a young athlete heading to NOP.
So Josh is a huge hypocrite to judge any NOP athlete.
