For me, this sort of anonymous bashing makes Galen into a more sympathetic figure. I'm well aware of all the questions, investigations, etc., but this high-horsing smacks of sour grapes and petty jealousy. It'd be different if they put their names out there.
And Meb's repeated slights of Galen are getting old

I'm rooting for Galen because he is an actually quality elite marathoner - something America has not had since Ryan hall. I'm all for pushing the limits. In fact, you have to push the limits to be elite.

Alberto is the best coach in America right now because he actually tries to have his athletes compete with the best of the best, and is willing to push the limits to get there. I believe he is in the grey area on some things, but hasn't broken any USADA rules. Until there is any proof of that, please stop comparing his athletes to Russians who have been PROVEN to be doping, and to a far worse degree than NOP could ever be doing.

You must have missed the part in the leaked USADA reports where Dr Jeffrey Brown of the NOP potentially broke rules by applying excess dosages of l-carnitine and falsifying the records.

I see your point, but they're bothering me for different reasons.
The anonymous bashing bothers me because these coaches are trying to tear down Rupp's Boston performance even before it happens.
If he blows up, they'll beam with schadenfreude. If he wins, they've already (in their minds) rendered the performance meaningless. This, when the U.S. has no other male (including these coaches' own runners) mixing it up with the world's best. And they get the LRC platform to do this without even putting skin in the game.
Regarding Meb, I love the guy, but he's always acted dismissively of Rupp (remember the post '16 Trials press conference where he complained of Rupp running too close to him?). Now, Rupp, like Meb, has an Olympic medal in the marathon, and a major marathon victory, and is headed to Boston, where he could potentially become the second American to win in decades, putting him in company of, yes, Meb. I wish Meb would either come right out and say: "I cannot support Galen because of everything I've heard and read" or support his fellow countryman. To act like Galen only half exists just seems juvenile to me

You aren't thinking this through. It's not petty jealousy or sour grapes. It's common sense. They have doubts about him being clean but can't say that on the record without risking career suicide.
I told Jon, "It would be career suicide for most of these coaches to consider putting their name out there. You don't want to be blackballed by Nike."
They wouldn't have a shot at a future job as a pro coach for Nike and Nike also can lean in on ADs to hire certain people at schools they sponsor.
One of the points of doing the article was to show people who accuse us of having an anti-NOP bias is to show you what the sentiment is at the elite level for the NOP.
Galen and, I bet, many other American and so is Shalane are willing to push to the limits of every single thing they do in life to get there. They'll do everything they can to win and this is what it takes if you want to win. So why voting down on Rupp in that regard?
I wonder what Galen thinks of all the hatred he receives. Is he even aware of it?

Meb totally ignoring Galen as a force in marathoning I think speaks volumes for how he views it. Galen's a top 5 marathoner in the world in my book. I keep planting it out there that I really like his chances in Tokyo.

There's "pushing the limits", and then there's pushing through the limits into insanely gray or outright illegal acts. I trust the people closest to the competition the most. They hear things. Meb, for example, can't be coming from a place of sour grapes because he's been there and done that. Additionally, his (and others) excitement for Shalane's win just go to show you that it's not just a case of jealousy or sour grapes. There is something legitimately different between how Shalane goes about trying to be her best within the confines of what's allowed vs. what some others may be willing to try.

Agreed. It could be jealousy, it could be suspicion, it could be a mixture of those. I believe that Salazar has broken rules and so it is hard for me to cheer for anyone that willfully associates with him. I have a lot of respect for Galen - he is clearly a hard worker - but I don't get excited when he performs well.
All of these no-name, mouth-breathing, do-nothings are just jealous of our lord and savior Galen Rupp.

Winning Boston and feeling like you accomplished something that only happens once-in-a-blue-moon --- then a younger, more talented runner upstages your performance the following years (while seemingly on a path to blow your career marks out of the water) --- how could anyone be jealous of that?

When did that happen?
In interviews with Galen and his parents it sounds like he doesn't read too much of the stuff said about him. His response to doping allegations has always been basically "We know the truth about what I've done and taken, and none of it is illegal." Not necessarily the strongest rebuttal, but if he's telling the truth he has nothing to worry about and has better things to be doing than coming up with different answers to those questions.
