She'll still train for the 400ih as a long term goal. She'll just focus on speed and power this year. Look at this year as part of a very long term macrocycle.

She needs to go pro. Nice young lady with the ability to sell almost every product under the sun. I have never before thought that high school phenoms should go pro, but in this case the girl has movie star good looks and could earn millions. I work in advertising and I can tell you that a year away at sleepaway college is a mistake. Would love to see her get a seven figure contract AND be an olympic gold medalist. It can be done with the right guidance.
Exactly. Why waste time in Kentucky? She is an Olympian as a junior in high school.
What do you think is more beneficial long term?
1-2 years where she can improve drastically with little pressure and also enjoy college.
The marketing $ a track athlete can make in a non-Olympic/worlds year.
???
She isn't broke people, her parents have been flying her around to meets her entire HS career. She is going to be an absolute stud, but whether she is pro next year or not will have little to do to her success.
Coe racing an occasional 400m was Peter Coe just using bracketing: race some races longer than 800 and race longer than 800. Sebastian Coe did not drop primary event, 1978-1979.

She will be one and done, for less cash then she could get this year. One of her advisors should look back at Alan Webb's one year st U.of M.
I'm inclined to agree. Its hard to get better at "X" by focusing on "Y". To think the fastest ever HS 300 hurdler will be well served by focusing on other events seems misguided.
Maybe Mondo ought to focus on high jump for a year or so?
If it pays off of course I'll be happy for her.
Mondo has dabbled in the high hurdles, TJ, and LJ throughout his career. I don't know if he did those at all in the past year. He is definitely not bad at them, but obviously not nearly as good as he is in the PV. He is at a level that would go to a high school state meet in all three events in most states.

Hardly a surprise given Bubka's exploits in such events.
Mondo went 23'5.5" for 2nd at his state meet.
The history of track would have been forever changed if Ryun had run the 400m and thrown the javelin for Kansas as a freshman.

Do you guys know of some other success stories that dropped their primary event so that they could get better at it?
Not saying this is generally a good idea, but Christian Taylor took a year off jumping to run the 400
