I think the OP means in THIS year's finals, so AI isn't in the race. He's a good bet for all-time NBA 5K champion, though, with the 4:48 mile. John Stockton in his prime struck me as a potential distance type. For this year, the consensus seems right: Curry or Clark, in the mid-18's at best.

The post to which I responded referred to Iverson, who supposedly ran a 4:48 mile. I abbreviated his name to AI, as he was often known in his playing days.

This is the most hysterically biased runner thing I've read on this website. It's obvious that a lot of you have never done any sport other than running.
Guys, basketball is HARD. They train as hard as runners. The guards and speedier players are fit.
I'd bet my net worth on Steph Curry being able to break 18:30 in a 5k with an honest effort.
McCaw or Clark. McCaw weighs 185 lbs, has a BMI under 21.
None of them would break 18:30 and I would be impressed with the ones who could break 20. I'm a hs runner who quit basketball for XC and track. We had a time trial last year and me and the other track kid jogged in 5:15 and 5:20. No one else broke 5:50. This was the same team that went on to the State Championship game and produce 4 D1 players. This made me reliaze I was in the wrong sport. Like some one said earlier basketball does produce good t&f athletes just the ones from our school were high jumpers and sprinters. I would have to go with Ian Clark in 19:10
