You are falling into the trap of not understanding that there are no tactics for the first 30k of a paced marathon. Sit on the official pace runners till they stop. You just don't get it. It can be windless and flat as a pancake with a pace car, they are not going to hold that pace for 26.2 miles. I don't care about the shoes.61/61????????? No, there was a big difference between back then and now and a huge difference between the mile and the marathon.Look at the progression of both records, how many years that it took each to get where there are now, how much they dropped by each time, and then, only then, come back and talk to me. With your logic, why not say they can run 1:55? Then 1:50? I have a newsflash for you, they are on the edge right now. The current marathon record was set with pacemakers, pushing the air aside, on a super fast course. They are not getting that time down by 3 minutes. I'm not a hater, I'm a true realist. You're living in a fairytale world, good luck with that. When they don't do it, I'll be back to "tell you so", then you'll hide like scared mice.

Why people even care？ Their plan is going to break many rules, the time won't be eligible for world record, so why does it matter? They will NOT break any record because they are not following the same rules and it's like compare apple to oranges.

The truth is Nike just want to break the record done in adidas shoes. Any time below 2:02:57 will be seen as a success.

If they run it on a circuit it's fare game. It doesn't have to happen at some corporate big money Marathon to be real or legit. They are running 26.2 miles on a fare course.

If I want the track and ran a sub 4 mile with my wife riding a bike In front of me I'd count it.

Everyone needs to go out and run 1 mile at 4:35 pace and realize that a city marathon course is a joke for these studs ... this is going to be the new norm! I wish I was there...

Nike needs to be build a 2 mile loop in Oregon and host this thing every year live!

the past WRs were set in races with winning the race being the primary goal. splits can be all over the place in races with lots of accelerations and tactics. we all know even pacing/effort is optimal aerobic efficiency. is that efficiency worth 3%? well i'm expecting them to bonk by mile 21 but you can bet i'll be watching it with some interest
