Anyone else find "medals are for finishers!" to be a rather hilarious complaint?

I mean, when you put it that way, it makes me care a whole lot less about the whole thing. Once you've stretched the meaning of a medal from "I was a top finisher" to "I managed to amble across the line before the whole circus packed up and left town," drawing a line in the sand at that point just seems kind of funny. As if the one guy who took a second one is the thing that devalued the finishers medal.

Actually, he did it for his wife... so it wasn't about him, it was about thanking his wife for taking care of the family while he achieved his dream. I think it's nice.

I couldn't care less if the BAA has to pay an extra 3$ to the medal making company. With how much this website b###hes about entry fees, you'd think people would be more supportive of this.

No, he did it for himself.

He could have given it to his wife and not said a word about it.

BUT, it has to be posted for all the world to see what a great guy he is for giving the (stolen) medal to his wife.

Give the guy credit... he realized his mistake (even if part of that decision was forced upon him by getting flamed), owned up to it and actually apologized. I can think of a lot of other people who have cheated Boston in one way or another and showed no such remorse.

Reminds me of that scene in Scarface when Tony is acting like a big-shot, trying to give his mama a wad of (illegally obtained) cash. Ma threw it back in his face. She wouldn't be bought off with something illegally obtained. She had integrity. Maybe Andy's wifey should have some integrity and give him the same kind of slap-down. The visual makes me laugh. "I wan you to see whadda good boy I been..." as Andy slides the stolen medal across the kitchen table...

You think it's a good idea to steal something for your wife? Can it be anything? Where do you draw the line of when it's romantic to steal and when it's wrong to steal? You're a scum bag too.

And it absolutely was all about him, since he had a medal but didn't want to part with it, so he stole one for her so he could keep his own. Then, he wanted to show off what a good guy he was and posted about his theft on social media. It's hard to imagine that anyone would actually think this was a positive thing.

I think finisher medals are lame, but stealing a medal instead of giving your own medal to your wife is pure scum bag behaviour. Supporting his theft makes you worse. He at least apologised for his bad behaviour.

And think it through a little, fool. If he's allowed to steal and extra medal, so is everyone. Why can't they take a handful? Where does that end? Everyone is allowed as many medals as they want. How do you see that working out? Idiot.

Sooooooo, here is an honest, legit question.

Why don't more races let a finisher BUY an extra marathon medal? Like if you can prove it is you who ran the race (and finished) and you are willing to pay a fee ($10? $20?) you can have a medal mailed to you a few days after the race. I could see the big races with a lot of charity entrants (NYC, Marine Corps, Boston, London(?), Chicago, etc) doing this. Besides, what do you do with the extra medals anyways? Anyone know?
