Ahem, the 4:26 guy set a PR. He is a 10th grader and Clinger's younger brother. He has a lot of upside and this race gives him confidence he could run faster this year.
I went to HS with a guy who started 10th grade at 4:30 low. He ran 4:08.7 for a mile (1609m, and 4:07.4c for 1600m) at age 15 that year. That was in 1974. And guess what? He is still the age 15 mile world record holder. His name is Jim Arriola.

C'mon now. As brilliant as American Fork's studs ran, and they were outrageously fast, remember that the splits are for 1600 METERS, not one mile. There is a bit of a difference. Tiny, but let's keep it real. Conversions:
Mile 1 -- 4:26 for 1600m = 4:27.54 mile
Mile 2 -- 4:08 for 1600m = 4:09.44 mile
Mile 3 -- 4:05 for 1600m = 4:06.42 mile
Mile 4 -- 4:02 for 1600m = 4:03.04 mile
Total -- 16:41.30 (the precise time) for 4 x 1600m is at 4:11.78 mile pace.
Pretty freakin' fast, though remember that 1600m is 9.76m short of a mile, and a lot of heartache (collapse, lactic acid tie-up, running into an idiot official at Stanford maybe) can happen in those final meters. There are probably some runners whose times at 1600m, in mile races, were at sub-4:00 pace, but whose final mile times were above 4:00.
So let's give American Fork kudos for what they did -- blast a 4 x 1600m relay, not a 4 x mile relay. Great, GREAT result, though -- absolutely.

Nope, the 1600m and the mile are NOT the same damn thing. They're different. Close, but different. A significant small amount. 880 yards isn't 800 meters. 440 yards isn't 400 meters. Etc., etc., etc. There are only nine high schoolers who have broken 4:00 in the MILE. Only one who has broken 4:00 in the 1600 METER run -- Grant Fisher (in his sub-4 HS mile race in 2015). They're different races, and stopping 9-and-change yards short of a mile isn't running a mile.
Forget relay splits, which never count in the lists, though maybe a high schooler or two can brag to have broken 4:00 in a relay mile split. If his name isn't Jim Ryun, Tim Danielson, Marty Liquori, Alan Webb, Lukas Verzbicas, Matthew Maton, Grant Fisher, Drew Hunter, or Michael Slagowski, then he's not considered a sub-4:00 high school miler. And if he ran a sub-4 1600m relay split, ditto on that. Alan Webb ran a sub-4 1600m relay split in the DMR at the Penn Relays at least once -- and it doesn't count as a sub-4 MILE!
I'm not dissing the American Fork guys -- they ran a jaw-dropping race.

Why do people insist on saying full mile it is a mile period a well defined common distance no modifier needed.

A modifier is required because HS runners think four laps is a mile. Never mind that each laps is 400m. Rounding off those pesky 9.x meters is the simplest way to enhance a training log.
AF ran one 4x1600 last year at the Timpanogas Relays in Orem, UT (4774 ft) in 17:01.26.

I checked the schedule and heat sheets but with 266 pages not sure which are the loaded heats coming this afternoon and evening. What time for the elite mile and and 3200?
I have no idea why some posters are bent out of shape by Lapped Miler saying that 1600 meters isn't a mile, and a 4:02 1600 meter time is not a 4:02 mile, and that discussing American Union's results as if they ran miles is erroneous.

This sport, like all sports, has standards to uphold. You've all heard the one about record attempts needing a hard inside rail on the track. Precision is essential for integrity. Altitude is taken into consideration now for records. And windspeed. And drugs or illegal blood doping (sometimes). A 9.5 sec 100 meter sprint at Mexico City isn't a 9.5 in Monaco. Likewise, Casey Clinger running a great indoor time this past winter at altitude equates to something even faster indoors at the Armory in NYC. Casey C. and his teammates running a record 4 x 1600 meter race is not C.C. & gang running a record 4 x mile. But it sure is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast!
The Ball family would crush this record. The Utah team won't have the foot speed to keep up. LiAngelo to LaMelo to Lonzo and then LaVar on anchor. Come on man, that's a world record squad.
