It's a ridiculous amount, but despite all of the excess self celebration in Boston on marathon weekend, it's still a fun trip and it's a reward I give myself every year by having a solo trip in nice accommodations without the family. I'm very fortunate that I can afford it easily because I do it every year.
Don't forget to include the $1,000 per day of missed wages, if you are missing work

I don't know about you guys but whenever someone asks me what something cost, I always calculate opportunity costs into the total. It's safer that way.
I gave up the opportunity to be Bill Gates to run Boston. Factoring in opportunity cost I'm looking at roughly $3.5 billion/mile.

I dont know about you but when I'm told something is buy 1 get 1 free or buy 100 get 1 free, I don't consider the 2nd purchase or 101st purchase to be free.
While we're at it let's also add social costs to everything when quoting costs. Great idea!

I've got a buy 1 get 19 free 2017 Nissan Altimas for $200k a piece. It's a steal. I'll deliver 1 today and the other 19 in 10 years.
I need to correct my previous statement. I forgot to add in the cost of toothpaste that I used.
I was able to easily find hotel+flight for two from the SE to BOS just now for Saturday to Monday of race weekend, for between $571 and $751 per person on kayak at very good downtown hotels, including some of those mentioned above. No reason to be spending more than $1500 on flights+hotel unless you are going across the ocean.

Hotel: $2000 for 4 nights near Commons
Race fee: $300
Stuff I will buy at Expo: $400 roughly
Food/alcohol: $100ish (share with b/f)
Trolley Tour: $50
Red Sox game: $50
Uber: $40 (also share with b/f)
Total = $3615 / 26 miles = $139 CAD per mile.
No race is worth this amount of money (not to mention, marathon training through a Canadian winter: SUCKS!!!!!!) Looking forward to racing, but glad this is my last Boston.
