Crossfit? No.

Lifting weights? Maybe. Could prevent injury thus leading to more productive training. Could improve running economy thus leading to improved performance. Could lead to improved speed thus leading to a better kick at the end of races. Most runners lift how they run and that's the wrong way to lift for a runner to benefit greatly.

This race really isn't much of a World Championship. Outside of the top 1-3 runners, it's a hobby jogger fest. Just saying.....

Also what Hall is doing is not how a runner who is focused on competitive running should lift.

Honestly, that's only 170 pounds? My previous neighbor who was 65

Unfortunately for Ryan, MUSCLE MILK has been found to contain high levels of lead which has now caused damage to Ryan's brain. It also contains high levels of the toxic metals cadmium and arsenic.

From Consumer Reports:

The samples of Muscle Milk Chocolate powder we tested contained all four heavy metals, and levels of three metals in the product were among the highest of all in our tests. Average cadmium levels of 5.6 µg in three daily servings slightly exceeded the USP limit of 5 µg per day, and the average lead level of 13.5 µg also topped the USP limit of 10 µg per day. The average arsenic level of 12.2 µg was approaching the USP limit of 15 µg per day, and the average for mercury was 0.7 µg, well below the USP's 15 µg-per-day limit. Three daily servings of Muscle Milk Vanilla Crème contained 12.2 µg of lead, exceeding lead limits, and 11.2 µg of arsenic. A fourth product, Muscle Milk Nutritional Shake Chocolate (liquid), provided an average of 14.3 µg of arsenic per day from three servings, approaching the proposed USP limit.

This is why Ryan had cognitive dysfunction and got lost in the woods during his race.

This is also very common with outsiderunner during his stupid marathon races.

With an easy $10K on the line at NF50, you'd think some of them would just go on a little cash- grab jog. Nice long run.

In both cases: Because the money is not so easy.

It is funny that Zach will race those guys at the short mountain stuff, but those guys won't give it a whirl at 50+. Just sayin'.

If North Face or Xterra will give out $100,000 prize money plus appearance fees like the major marathons, second tier Kenyans will train and come to the race.

The second tier Kenyans will win all the money instead of all the second tier US runners.

Again, he doesn't care if he comes in 18th or 200th or if he gets lost on the course. He's just goofing around. He knows that getting big is not good for running fast. Isn't it obvious?

He's still pretty skinny. Big for a runner, but not huge.

It's sad that someone with that much God-given talent chooses to no longer use it.

Ryan Hall was in the lead most of the race until he went of course for total extra of 1.7 miles. He also came to a number of complete stand stills trying to find his way back. If he would not have run of course he would have won by over 2 minutes

I'm a fan of Ryan Hall, but I think he looks weird. The muscle on his biceps and shoulders looks bloated, especially compared to his skinny forearms. As a pro runner, he was forcing his body to be slimmer than it naturally wanted to be, now he has forced his body to be more bloated than it wants to be. Like I said, I'm a fan of Ryan, but moderation was never something he could grasp.
