Carlos Rey grew up in Torrance, CA and joined the AF, went to an air base Japan, where he studied Karate. When he returned from the AF to L.A. he continued with Karate.
Norris has also studied BJJ. He is very badass, even at 76 years old.
Daniel: Well, I figured you knew about this stuff. I figured you went to these before. Oh great, I'm dead. I am dead. You told me you fought a lot.
Miyagi: For life, not for points.
if you step in ring against Miyagi, you are fighting for your life, not points

Google "krav maga" or "jeet kune do".
Krav maga is legitimate street fighting art. Jeet Kune do - I am not so sure about. Bruce Lee lost a number of street fights.

Actually, he has said that he did lose "his fair share" of street fights. Here is bit of trivia for you - What is the highest belt one can attain in Judo?

The Black Friday shoppers are akin to Mr. Miyagi. They are not fighting for points or for gifts. They are fighting for their lives.
Your comparison does not apply. UFC goals/rules and Karate differ, as does every other sport. It's like comparing basketball to soccer. I.E. someone who plays soccer will normally win a soccer match while someone who plays basketball will win a basketball match.

Rules?
Daniel: If you and Sato had fought, would your father have been the referee?
Mr. Miyagi: Would've been no referee.
Daniel: Then how do you know who wins?
Mr. Miyagi: The one who dead doesn't.

It is actually a liability, because it disappears under an adrenaline rush which robs motor control from the distal limbs.
The best real-life fighting skills you can possibly have are football skills - chase down, run away, tackle, break tackles.
