It's ironic that you wrote this just before a weekend of solid NE distance running. At Dartmouth Hale soloed 8:18 and his teammates Simpson and Colaizzi weren't far behind. Nichols hit 14:19 on a flat track to outpace Maloney. I think you're right to say the region is just off to a slow start. Put Deyo, Maloney, O'Connor, Nichols, Hale, Simpson, or Colaizzi in a BU-type race and watch those times drop.

Does anyone know what 'athletics probation' actually means? Is Amherst really barred from competition for the next two cross country seasons? If so, it'll be hard to convince prospective runners to come to Amherst and wait until their junior year to start competing. This could dismantle the program.

They are allowed to compete during the cross country season.

It’s incredible how close Tufts, Williams, and Middlebury look this year. Unlike XC, there are no clear favorites for T&F NESCAC’s this year. Middlebury has great talent in the long sprints/middle distance events, Tufts has strength across the board, while Williams seems to faltering in the events it excelled in last year, mainly long and middle distance, but has made up for it with improvements in throws and the rise of two very strong multi’s athletes, Tobias Muellers and Tommy Riley.

This is going to be a nuts DIII’s. Sure, MIT will most likely win, but it honestly seems like a toss-up between the top-3 NESCAC teams for second.
