Huh? There's a lot of money in triathlon. She makes well over $200K in prize money alone at triathlon. I don't know about her sponsorship earnings, but I'm sure it's far more. She will only once be able to run her first marathon as a novelty. That's done now. The woman is a CPA, with a masters degree in accounting. I'm sure she has done the calculations to compare what the top triathlete in the world makes compared to, say, the 15th best marathoner in the world (that's where to top american woman sits). Running a marathon in which you won't earn any prize money vs running a triathlon you'll win isn't much of a tradeoff.

I'd be surprised if she was paid anything today. She's extremely loyal to her sponsor (asics) which is a big sponsor of NYRR. She always wanted to give the marathon a try, so this worked out perfectly. Maybe she was paid, but it's nothing close to the $60k she made last weekend.

You honestly believe this? I can't even imagine how much money she was paid. Some people are so naive.

Well, Dick Person.....Finishing as the 14th female out of over 50,000 runners isn't crap. It's world class. You jealous skinny boy.......

She could easily run faster if she trained specific to it. But she won't because it would interfere with her triathlon training. At the triathlon she is a world champion, so that is her focus. The only way I see her running a fast marathon is if she decides to move up to the ironman distance later on in life.

I ran faster off triathlon training. I doubt she has anywhere near 2:2x speed like some have said.

Maybe it's all backwards. She is a world class at triathlon because she is a great runner. Highlights the importance of being a great runner over cycling and swimming. So I'd venture to say that is any pro runner with a little specific training would do fairly well in triathlon.

Not necessarily. A lot of good runners can't swim for crap. It is partly a function of bone density.

You are what your time is. Just because that's the way she decided to train doesn't mean that she gets to say that she would be faster if she trained differently. She's currently a 2:41 marathoner which is just not that good. To say she is faster than that is a lie. When someone asks you your PR's you don't list each one while mentioning that if you trained differently your PR would be better. So until she runs faster than 2:41, no one gets to say that she is better than that.

er...I don't think Asics is connected to NYRR anymore. it's a NB town now.

They're still a major sponsor. I double checked before I posted.

I'm a huge fan of Jorgensen, but she has no incentive to do this again. She's in a sport where there are no east Africans. She is a near elite runner in a sport where most of the competitors are average runners at best. She can dominate for years to come.

53:13 10 mile (3rd USA championships), low 32 road 10K (don't believe that 31:40 in a tri was accurate), and Olympic Gold in tri. Nothing to prove here, especially for a bunch of morans on this message board.

It's not that easy. A few have tried. Lukas Verzbicas and Alan Webb. And tell me how successful they were?

2:41 is faster than Lance Armstong's marathon PR. which I think is 2:47

Said she was trying to have a kid - she's done. Maybe she'll try and bump up to 70.3 or 140.6 but I doubt she tries to race marathons. Wouldn't be surprised if she just retires.

bladerunner stated it simply but perfectly. She's a National Class runner who happens to also be National Class as a swimmer and cyclist. Add those 3 together and you have a World Class triathlete. Why try and be World Class at one of the disciplines by itself when she's already the best in the world when you combine them together? Plus she can race far more often as a triathlete. She's in the right sport but I was glad to see her try out a marathon in NYC just to see how it'd treat her.

She isn't that good of a cyclist by cycling standards, it's her worst of the 3 events. She is a good enough swimmer to swim with the lead pack, on the bike she just has to be able to hold the draft, and then she kills everyone on the run.

I predict she would struggle on the bike at the Ironman distance, 112 miles is a long ways without the ability to draft like she is used to. I doubt she will even try it, unless she does it after her Olympic career is over as a bucket list thing.
