I watched the live stream that morning. What was interesting was that it came about 10 minutes after the commentators were talking about how confusing the pacing duties were assigned for the women's race, which was considered the Canadian marathon championships. I still don't really understand how it worked, but from what I can remember, there were general pacers that paced the overall leaders, and then if anyone wanted a 'personal' pacer, they would have to officially arrange for one (probably explains the bib numbers on them). Rachel Hannah, who was in second, had a 'personal pacer', but the leader Krista Duchene didn't. Then the commentators mentioned how it was unfair against Krista who was running alone while Rachel had help (he then made a great point about how there should NOT be any pacers after, at the most, the 30k mark).

About 10 minutes after they said that, this pacer seemingly comes out of nowhere to pace Krista.

Obviously, the results were not dramatically effected so I don't think it was a big deal, especially since Krista had no say in it (I think). Personally, I think this the fault of the race organizers for allowing pacers so far into the race in the first place.

Dayna went to BC to train with Richard Lee.

Bruchet said that his breakthrough came when Lee had him speed up on his recovery days.

What happened? Did she get injured?

Al Sal had Mo speed up on his recovery days too. It seems to go against the conventional protocol.

"In most of my races in my 30's I went through the first mile or two at 4:50

I could run 10 at 6:20 twice a day , every day.

It is difficult for me to accept this as race pace now. I don't accept it."

When eventually he was pressed for race results, he tried to slither away from any verifiable data, and finally vanished completely as he was pressed for verification. Never a single verifiable result, even of his "training". A complete and typical fraud.

FMD, to think that all these years I've held fred up as a shining light and hero. Fred Ur In, Josh and others you're sending me home totally devastated.

I hate the bashing but I respect your opinion. In reading your posts I agree with most of your training philosophies. It reminds me of the Hanson philosophy when it comes to the Marathon. Is that fair?

Hey fred, Have you ever seen that domestic white goose flying in a flock of Canada Geese around Hamilton?

This would be like having Reid Coolsaet who dropped out before the 20km mark; picked up in an official van and driven to 25 or 30km mark to pace Eric Gillis to the finish in a new canadian record.

If I were the one having to make the judgment call on this, based strictly on what I've seen of the available video, results and the IAAF applicable rules, I'd have to disqualify Duchene for receiving assistance from a pacer no longer participating in the race, given that Kiptoo appeared to have abandoned the race earlier on. Whether Duchene is aware or not I think is irrelevant in this case, given that it seems apparent that race organizers were involved in transporting Kiptoo ahead join Duchene.

This is less about penalizing Duchene and more about penalizing the race organizers. This is a high profile event and as such, the organizers have to show that a level of trustworthiness to their participants and the sport in general.

Nothing unusual for LR threads to morph in to something else.

Fred's dished it over the years, so it's a case of what goes around comes around. He does seem to have gone very quiet though about his times, training, other accusations, etc. Fred, what's that bird that sticks it head in the sand and hopes things will go away?
