Women's 800: Francine Niyonsaba Wins With Ease
Olympic silver medallist and Oregon Track Club member Francine Niyonsaba got the win as expected in the women’s 800 as she pulled away from the rest of the field over the final 100 in much the same way that Caster Semenya (who wasn’t racing here today) has pulled away from Niyonsaba all summer long.
The rabbit took things out right on schedule 57.95 (goal was 58) and the field was right on her. The problem was on the turn, Canada’s Melissa Bishop, the silver medallist in Beijing last year, had to move wide as the rabbit started to struggle (the rabbit would eventually drop out between 500 and 600). On the backstretch, the two silver medallists in Niyonsaba and Bishop had passed the rabbit. They hit 600 in 1:28.65. Coming off the final turn, Niyonsaba soon powered home to a dominant victory in 1:57.71 as Kenya’s Eunice Sum, the 2013 world champ, moved up from third to grab second in 1:58.41. Britain’s Lynsey Sharp came on strong as well to nab third ahead of Bishop.
Quick Thought: Seeing the rabbit be engulfed by the field may not look great on tv but it’s way better than her gapping the field.
Anyone here on the Oregon Track Club or got a friend on it or live in Eugene? Is the CAS ruling or the Intersex stuff ever talked about at the track?
While I don't think they should be competing without treatment, I am happy to see all three of the medallists smiling and enjoying their success. Niyonsaba looked really happy after picking up $10,000 today.

Yeah, I could get you a few fax numbers.

That's swell.

As bad as that looked with the rabbit looked having to race the leaders at 500, that was actually way better than her going out too fast.
It is hard to get a pace when the next running is 30 meters or more in front of you. It is crazy to think that this is the way to set an AJR? Like you wrote, she would have been much better at a lower key Euro meeting if a record was her goal.
no jager
Did she ever say she was aiming for the AJR?
Like ro/we/jo defaulted to after spreading the AJR rumor, the best guess is that you don't turn down a DL invitation if you are in decent shape. As a DL runner, she would now be worth more to a smaller Euro meet. She has also busted the rust and gotten more used to being in Europe...
What happened to Birech in the last couple months? I swore I read Canova say somewhere that Birech was going to break the world record he was in such good shape back in like June. Stopped taking the dope?
Cabral 6th in 8:20. Pretty typical solid result for him

Spreading the rumor?
You think she signed up for a DL race intending on a) not breaking 9:00 ? Are you crazy? Why wouldn't she be trying to PR and be somewhat competitive?
If she PRd, she was going to break the AJR.
It wasn't a good race for her. She wanted the record and didn't get it.
I don't need to be in snapchat communication with her to know she wanted the AJR.
Prandini goes home DEVASTATED
Prediction on webpage is wrong.
Here's better one:
1)Kiprop
2)Soulman
3)Centro
Kiprop failed at the Olympics because he lacks endurance for all the heats.
WTF just happened in the women's 100m?
... I'm watching it in French so I have no idea.
Prandini's reaction time indicates a false start. Not going home DEVASTATED yet
Well this is interesting, false start and Prandini was the only one to stop running, and she gets a yellow card even though she has one of the slowest reaction times? Ok that was strange, and then Prandini getting the yellow is even worse.
After watching that steeple, I have to thoughts.
Quick Thought #1: Evan Jager was smart to skip this one.
Quick Thought #2: How many Kenyans would be in the top 10 at the Olympics if Kenya was allowed unlimited entries?
They have 9 of the 12 fastest men in 2016.
1 08:00.12 Conseslus Kipruto KEN
2 08:03.90 Jairus Birech KEN
3 08:04.28 Evan Jager USA
4 08:08.32 Paul Kipsiele Koech KEN
5 08:09.13 Barnabas Kipyego KEN
