Once reporters actually started digging the truth leans far in Lochte's favor. This is looking like a typical extortion by Brazilian police.

Irrespective of whether Lochte was extorted or not by the police, security guards etc. he brought this all on himself. He, and the others should have known that they were in a third world hell hole where the police are corrupt, and that doing anything that would draw attention to themselves (IE public urination, destroying property etc) might result in some kind of action that was disproportionate to the crime. Bottom line is that he's an idiot.

Sounds a lot like the USA where cops have killed hundreds of unarmed people in the last year alone. Conveniently (for the cops), in many cases their body cameras tend to malfunction precisely when the murders have occurred, and almost none of these cops have been prosecuted. The US needs to sort out it's own civil rights issues before turning up its nose at other countries.

Lochte could have diffused the whole situation when he woke up but at some point he ran into Billy Bush on the beach and made it way worse. Anyone know when that happened?

In Brazil is it normal for a gas station to be protected by four armed guards?

Where did you come up with four armed guards?

There were two guards and each of the guards has two arms. So by American math, 2 guards x 2 arms = 4 armed guards that robbed our little innocent Lochte. QED. As Lochte so famously said, it's all in the way you look at it whether it was a robbery, extortion, or just Americans that can't do simple math.

This is exactly the type of logic USA Today uses.

Almost any big retailer in the US has a similar way of dealing with minor issues. They don't want the police constantly there, so solve them in-house if possible.

Casinos operate the same way with drunk low-level cheats (get them off the property, rather than have a floor arrest).

It's completely a common commonsensical solution.

Lochte returns to the U.S. on an undisclosed flight.

Anyone know how he managed this? I mean, there were TONS of media for the other swimmers, but Lochte slips under the radar??! Sure, the story hadn't completed exploded yet, but it was still pounding the newscycle.

Did he slip back on a private jet from a Hollywood pal, maybe?
