It is not a grey area. "Women's" sports is for women, not for "not men." You are inventing that, then accusing me of ignoring it, then flaming me. Exactly the sort of harassment I was talking about.

Yes you cut and pasted exactly the same comment on the other thread. And I answered that Semenya is doing nothing for poor black girls in SA. No poor black girls ran in that 800m, nor are they likely to escape poverty in SA because of seeing Semenya as a role model. Because they are not intersex. Well, admittedly the rate of similar birth defects in male babies in Limpopo is thought to be 1 in 10, isn't it? So are you favouring that 5% of the population with your comments and forgetting the 50% that are born female?

What unfortunately might happen is an increase in genital mutilation of babies.

Other than that, Semenya's actually had quite a privileged life for someone from her background. University, world championships without years of hard training and racing first. Nothing like the most women from that background experience at all. I can see why Semenya is hanging onto racing women as hard as Semenya can.

So gender-scamming track and field is justified by previous political discrimination, which had nothing to do with our sport. This is so comedic yet typical!

Factually wrong and philosophically ridiculous. First off, she has never lived as a female. She went all the way through school as a male and her teachers were stunned to discover that she had declared herself a woman for her athletics career. She married a woman. She wore a man's clothes to the wedding. She identifies as a woman only for the two minutes she is running an 800m.

As for your philosophical objection, it's simply ridiculous. There is prize money in athletics. If she can identify as a woman only for two minute long races and get away with it, then so can David Rudisha. He could run the women's race as a warm-up to the men's race, taking both prizes as his identity quickly changes. Caster would already being doing that if she were good enough to win the men's races.

She's simply gender fluid. If she wants to compete as a women, than let her, its her right.

Bang on. SJWs are the reason for this chaos in the first place. The CAS were afraid to hurt their feelings. But like you said, they don't really care about the issues anyways (where were they before the race), they just want to see if their ignorantly informed voice can actually force change to feel better about their otherwise incompetent and insecure selves.

I just wish Semenya would bust out a 1:50 and end this madness. The only reason there's any debate is because she's only a couple seconds better than the other girls. If she ran to her full potential she would immediately be banned.

It they keep this farce up it's only a matter of time until the women's world records are not held by any women.

Haha, yep couldn't help notice the sudden increase in use of SJW here, had to look it up myself. Can't say I'll be using the term at every possible opportunity though.

Deco - I think you are on to something. One of the reasons I dislike watching Semenya is that, frankly, she doesn't race very hard because, well, she doesn't have to.

Her Rio gold medal reminded me of a high school boys race, where a reasonably powerful 1:51 high school 800 meter runner kicks home in a mediocre 1:55 race. Not so bad if you are one of the 40 people showing up at a high school meet, but really uninspiring, and frankly, not helpful to an already marginal sport in the only competition (the Olympics) which sustains it.

This is the problem with the myopic perspective of posters like justice4rcaster above. This is not to say that the social justice points aren't to some degree valid, but rather that there is a greater good and benefit for thousands of women in supporting competitive and exciting women's events, and since the sport is, well, entertainment, it makes sense to maintain the integrity of the product.

And note - and I say this as a former very average 3:42 1500 meter guy years ago, no one is suggesting that Semenya not compete in the men's races. After, I believe she is eminently capable of running 1:50/1:51 in the 800, and experiencing running track as a very capable, reasonably proficient club runner in the men's events (with a college education to boot), hardly makes her a victim. It is the lot most of us with some talent (but not world class talent),

Note that she has not been treated in many cases with sensitivity. I don't think that is at all right. But asking her to compete in men's races is not a cataclysmic request, and she in that sense is not a victim. 1:50 800 meter talent is very good, and there is opportunity for self expression and challenge in that (in the men's events).
