Are the IAAF F*king serious? (re: drug cheat Genzebe Dibaba)

What is outrageous about the IAAF writeup? According to reports all year long, her season WAS disrupted by a troublesome toe injury. I suppose they could have mentioned unsubstantiated drug accusations against her and her coach.

If you've followed the Aden story closely, you would already know, according to the last reports:

- the EPO found in the hotel raid was NOT found in Jama Aden's room, and has not yet been linked to Jama Aden

- the substances found in Aden's room, and the discarded syringes were "not doping products" that would concern the IAAF

- none of the athletes at the hotel tested positive for anything

Maybe more will come out as the investigation progresses, but so far there is nothing conclusive to show that Aden is guilty of anything more than what he told David Torrence, and Torrence told us -- injecting his athletes with magnesium and folic acid.

Aden and Dibaba cannot be banned without evidence that suggests they broke any anti-doping rules. There is nothing the IAAF can do, or even should do.

I hate the cheats as much as you, but I don't understand your certainty that she is cheating. She has not been caught. Some athletes training with her were, but she was not. The IAAF has a lot of problems, but I am not willing to assume they would raid Aden's hotel and then clear Dibaba unless her test was clean. If we want the IAAF to begin reforming, we can't expect them to ban specific athletes merely by association when they have, themselves passed a test. You can claim conspiracy until you are blue in the face, but in the real world, an institution must stand by its rules and follow a process. Yes, the IAAF has until recently not always followed its processeces, but it is likely that they are now. Maybe Dibaba is clean? Maybe she is a cheat? The certainty you claim is based on an inner need for clarity that is more about you than the external world. The doping problem, if it is ever to be solved, will not happen now, or tomorrow. It is a long term process, and that process is not helped by claiming knowledge that one does not possess. She may be a cheat, but you do not know for certain.

I follow you up to a point. I don't think they can ban her. At the same time, I find the situation to be very suspicious. Rekrunner painted an overall rosy picture above for Aden. The facts are that a lot of EPO was there. Aden is denying that the his athlete had the EPO (even though it was in his room and he was the one arrested) or that the physio was associated with him. That is fine in terms of a criminal prosecution or even IAAF action. That said, if everyone walks from a raid that showed EPO on site because of collective silence or confusion, then we can form our opinions on the group and the lack of effectiveness of testing. In terms of the credibility of the team, it would be great to get a very clear story about how two independent people with EPO:- got to that site on their own.- Came to share rooms with Aden athletes.- Were somehow perceived by authorities to 1) not to be the person in possession of the EPO (athlete from Yemen athlete) or 2) be affiliated with the group (The physio).I understand that a prosecutor bears the burden of proof and there are very valid reasons for that. Same goes for testing. But if there is cheating going on right under the facility he rented and the room of his athlete ( a fact not disputed) then Aden needs to do a lot better than giving vague answers if he wants people to trust how he handles his athletes. You and Rekrunner can defend the process but let's not gloss over what happened here.

I'm not "defending the process", but actually unglossing "what happened here".

I don't paint any rosy picture, but simply remind everyone who cares to be informed, of the last public detailed reporting on the subject, which do not support strongly held beliefs like "a coach is caught with a HUGE SUPPLY OF F*KING EPO" which seem to form the sole basis for calls for indefinite bans of the whole training group and lifetime bans for athletes not yet found doping.

Before forming any conclusions from imaginary assumptions, it might be interesting to remember that this coach has actually not been caught with any supply of EPO.

The IAAF cannot ban coaches or athletes on the basis of dailymail.co.uk headlines, and lynch mob pleas for a hanging.

You are asking good questions, but why do you think Jama Aden should be the one to answer them, rather than Jama Ourid Mounir or Musaeb Balla or Yaser Mubarak?

Maybe the main reason the IAAF haven't done anything against Aden or Dibaba is because there is no reason to.

By your reasoning the Festina cycling team should never have been banned from the 1998 Tour de France - EPO and steroids not found with the tezam riders but with the soigneur severy hundred miles away, none of the riders had ever tested positive etc etc ....

By your reasoning, you would not ban Festina, but team Telekom, because Jan Ullrich won the previous Tour in a sport known to be dirty.

By my same reasoning, with a very different set of facts in evidence, there were many strong links, known at that time from the evidence uncovered by the French gendarmes, between Festina and doping, justifying the expulsion of Festina from the tour:

- Willy Voet was the team soigneur for Festina, caught with EPO and steroids

- police found EPO and steroids and documents detailing the doping program of the Festina riders at Festina headquarters

- the Festina director Bruno Roussel confessed to systematic doping of the Festina riders

- the Festina doctor Eric Rijckaert had files on his computers showing EPO use by the Festina riders

Compare that to Jama Aden, and we are not anywhere near there yet with the Spanish Mossos investigation.
